Municipal solid waste incineration fly ash (MSWIFA) is considered a hazardous solid waste, traditionally disposed by solidified landfill methods. However, solidified landfills present challenges with leaching heavy metals, polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and dibenzofurans (PCDD/Fs). To address this issue, this study examined two pretreatment methods for MSWIFA: sintering at 850℃ for 30 min and washing with three water baths (20 min each) at a 3:1 liquid-solid ratio.

Comparative, Cost and Multi-Criteria Analyses of Traditional Binders in the Composition of Hemp-Based Finishing Products.

Materials (Basel)

January 2025

Department of Civil Engineering and Management, Faculty of Civil Engineering, Technical University of Cluj-Napoca, 28 Memorandumului Str., 400114 Cluj-Napoca, Romania.

The objective of this paper is to analyze the characteristics of twelve compositions based on hemp shiv and four traditional binders used in the construction industry: cement, plaster, hydrated lime and clay, with the aim of using the resulting materials as final finishing products applicable to the raw area of walls, slabs and other construction elements for walls. Comparative, cost and multi-criteria analyses were carried out on the proposed compositions. The comparative analysis focused on acoustic, thermal, mechanical and fire characteristics, followed by a cost analysis and ending with multi-criteria analysis.

A Manufacturing Technique for Binary Clathrate Hydrates for Cold and Very Cold Neutron Production.

Materials (Basel)

January 2025

Institut Laue-Langevin (ILL), 71 Avenue des Martyrs, 38042 Grenoble Cedex 9, France.

Intense sources of very cold neutrons (VCNs) would be beneficial for various neutron scattering techniques and low-energy particle physics experiments. Binary clathrate hydrates hosting deuterated tetrahydrofuran (THF-d) and dioxygen show promise as potential moderators for such sources due to a rich spectrum of localized low-energy excitations of the encaged guest molecules. In this article, we present a reliable manufacturing technique for such hydrates.

In this study, we use petroleum systems modeling (PSM) to quantitatively simulate the uncertainty of biogenic gas generation modes and their impact on the spatial distribution and resource assessment of gas hydrates in the Baiyun Sag, South China Sea. The results are as follows: (1) Biogenic gas generation is significantly affected by thermal state and organic matter type. Low temperature is a primary reason for gas hydrate occurrence in shallower sediments when sufficient methane gas is present.

Oil extracted from tiger nut is a good, edible source owing to its richness in unsaturated fatty acids. This study investigated the effects of the refining processes on the flavor components of crude tiger nut oil by GC-MS and focused on the thermal stability of the refined oil under high-temperature conditions. Three different refining processes were evaluated: citric acid-assisted hydration degumming, alkali deacidification and bleaching.
