Classic erythema nodosum leprosum (ENL) is characterized clinically by abrupt eruption of tender erythematous nodules, papules and plaques. Variable atypical patterns have been described, for example pustular, bullous, ulcerative, necrotic and Sweet's syndrome-like ENL. We aim to review previously reported cases of atypical ENL addressing the diagnostic and therapeutic aspects of these uncommon presentations.

In the past recent years, treatments that target receptors with kinase activity, involved in the transmission of neoplastic proliferation signals, had revolutionized cancer therapy. Imatinib mesylate has been the first of this novel family of drugs approved for the treatment of hematologic malignancies. Afterwards, other second-generation kinase inhibitors, such as dasatinib and nilotinib, have been introduced to circumvent resistance to imatinib.

In reference to Histiocytosis X as a controversial term, and analysis is submitted to underline lack of linkage between clinico-histological aspects in the Letterer-Siwe (LS) and Hand Schüller Christian (HSC) alterations. As pointed out, the HSC denomination tends to disappear, while debate becomes more difficult around the LS phenomena. A definition is offered to delimit more precisely the two clinical entities in question.
