Background And Objective: One of the functions attributed to the auditory efferent system is related to the processing of acoustic stimuli in noise backgrounds. However, clinical implications and the neurophysiological mechanisms of this system are not yet understood, especially on higher regions of the central nervous system. Only a few researchers studied the effects of noise on cortical auditory evoked potentials (CAEP), but the lack of studies in this area and the contradictory results, especially in children, point to the need to investigate different protocols and parameters that could allow the study of top-down activity in humans.

Prognostic Value of Pretreatment Carcinoembryonic Antigen (CEA) in Rectal Cancer Treated with Preoperative Short-Course Radiotherapy with Delayed Surgery or Long-Course Radiotherapy.

Onco Targets Ther

January 2025

Department of Radiation Oncology & Proton and Radiation Therapy Center, Kaohsiung Chang Gung Memorial Hospital, Chang Gung University College of Medicine, Kaohsiung City, 833, Taiwan.

Purpose: To investigate the prognostic value of the pretreatment serum carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) level in patients with rectal cancer treated by preoperative short-course radiotherapy (SCRT) followed by chemotherapy and delayed surgery.

Patients And Methods: Two hundred and sixty-six consecutive patients with locally advanced rectal adenocarcinoma without distant metastasis receiving preoperative radiotherapy were enrolled. Group 1 patients (n=144) received long-course radiotherapy (LCRT) with 50.

Same-Day Access for Head and Neck Cancer: Effect on Patient Outcome and Quality-Related Benchmarks.

J Patient Exp

January 2025

Department of Radiation Oncology, Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center, University of California-Irvine, School of Medicine, Irvine, CA, USA.

Delays in cancer treatment are detrimental across nearly every disease site in oncology including head and neck cancer. This study aimed to evaluate the impact of same-day access for patients with newly diagnosed head and neck cancer referred for radiation therapy consultation. From March 2021 to March 2023, a total of 50 consecutive patients who completed curative treatment were matched to a control subject who did not use the same-day initiative based on age, gender, histology, performance status, primary tumor site, stage, p16 status, treatment, and smoking history.

DTPA and anti-inflammatory drug associations to alleviate Pu-induced response of macrophages in vitro.

Toxicol In Vitro

January 2025

Atomic Energy and Alternative Energies Commission (CEA), Laboratory of Radiotoxicology, CEA, Paris-Saclay University, Bruyères-le-Châtel, France.

Internal contamination by inhalation of plutonium poorly soluble compounds leads to their long time retention in alveolar macrophages inducing delayed pathology development. As previous studies highlighted co-localization of retained Pu and inflammatory lesions, this study was designed to assess the combined effect of the reference treatment (DTPA) and anti-inflammatory drugs on Pu-induced early response of macrophages in vitro. Pu colloids, mimicking poorly soluble Pu, were characterized using filtration and solid-state nuclear track detectors CR39.
