Mosquitoes are abundant near temporary, semipermanent, and permanent water in North Dakota and are associated with human and veterinary diseases. Little is known about the feeding habits of mosquitoes as related to the transmission of arboviruses. We report on the identification of vertebrate hosts of 9 species of mosquitoes collected in 2003 to 2006.

With the application and development of high-throughput sequencing technology, the structure and function of insect gut microbiota have been analysed, which lays a foundation for further exploring the intricate relationships between gut microbiota and host feeding behaviour. The microbial community in the insect gut, as an important ecological factor, affects the host's food selection and nutritional metabolic processes through various mechanisms, which play a key role in population dynamics and ecosystems. The implications of these interactions are profound, affecting agricultural practices, biodiversity, and the broader environment, such as pollination and pest control.

Culicoides biting midges (Diptera: Ceratopogonidae) are known vectors of multiple arboviruses of veterinary and medical importance, as well as avian haemosporidian parasites. Despite their significant role as vectors, the distribution of Culicoides species in non-farmland habitats remains largely unknown. We conducted a study to assess the species community composition, abundance, and host feeding patterns of Culicoides biting midges in urban ecosystems in northern Spain.

Background: Surveillance of the host-anopheline mosquitoes' interaction is important for assessing malaria transmission risk and guiding vector control. We assume that changes in malaria vector species' feeding habits, as well as the surrounding environment, have a substantial impact on varied malaria transmission. In this study, we determined the vertebrate host feeding patterns of anopheline mosquitoes to characterize entomologic risk factors for malaria in Jabi Tehnan, Northwestern Ethiopia.

White-spotted flower chafer adult (Protaetia brevitarsis, Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae), a serious omnivorous pest in regions with multiple fruits and crops, was studied to gain a deeper understanding of its damage patterns. DNA molecular tracking technology was used to identify host plant residues in adult P. brevitarsis midgut, and plant species with the most availability were determined during their growing season.
