Reduced respiratory sinus arrhythmia, quantified as expiration-triggered sinus arrhythmia (ETA) from simultaneous electrocardiogram and respiration recordings, is a strong long-term mortality predictor in myocardial infarction survivors. Here, we investigated whether ETA also predicts mortality risk in the general elderly population. ETA was quantified from 30-min electrocardiogram and respiration recordings in 1788 general population subjects aged ≥60 years, who were then followed for a median of 4.

Background: The polyphenol oleuropein activates mitochondrial calcium import, which increases pyruvate dehydrogenase (PDH) activity. Preclinically, this increase in PDH activity following oleuropein supplementation resulted in improved mitochondrial bioenergetics and fatigue resistance.
Objective: This study aimed to examine the effects of acute and chronic oleuropein supplementation on muscle energy metabolism, whole-body substrate metabolism, strength, and fatigue resistance in older males.

The Zika virus became a global threat in 2015 due to its association with microcephaly. Preventing its spread depends on developing vaccines, with virus-like particles (VLP) being a promising approach, especially because of their safety profile and high immunogenicity. This study focused on the production of Zika VLP using Sf9 cells and the baculovirus expression system, evaluating cell growth kinetics, nutrient consumption, and metabolite production in Sf-900™ III medium.

Susceptibility to obesity differs depending on the genetic background and housing temperatures. We have recently reported that CETP expressing female mice are leaner due to increased lipolysis, brown adipose tissue (BAT) activity, and body energy expenditure compared to nontransgenic (NTg) littermates under standard housing temperature (22°C). The aim of this study is to evaluate how CETP expression affects body temperature, composition, and metabolism during cold exposure (4°C) and thermoneutrality (30°C).

Background: This study examines the role and effectiveness of double filtration plasmapheresis (DFPP) in managing hyperlipidemiclipidemic acute pancreatitis (HLAP).
Methods: Comparative analysis was conducted between two groups: one treated with DFPP and one without. Comparative parameters included blood lipid levels, inflammatory factors, vital signs, disease severity scores, and complication rates.
