Enhancement of aerobic sludge granulation by quorum sensing signaling molecules mediated by biomimetic bacterial extracellular vesicles.

J Environ Manage

January 2025

Department of Environmental Engineering, College of Ecology and Environment, Nanjing Forestry University, Nanjing, 210037, China. Electronic address:

The addition of exogenous quorum sensing signaling molecules to the activated sludge system enables rapid sludge granulation. However, signaling molecules exposed to the environment are easily degraded, and their quorum sensing effects cannot be maintained in the long term. Therefore, they must be frequently added, which leads to an increase in operational costs.

The placenta acts as a barrier, excluding noxious substances while actively transferring nutrients to the fetus, mediated by various transporters. This study quantified the expression of key placental transporters in term human placenta (n = 5) and BeWo, BeWo b30, and JEG-3 placenta cell lines. Combining these results with pregnancy physiologically based pharmacokinetic (PBPK) modeling, we demonstrate the utility of proteomic analysis for predicting placental drug disposition and fetal exposure.

Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Hospital of Stomatology, Guanghua School of Stomatology, Sun Yat-sen University, 56 Lingyuan Road West, Guangzhou 510055, China; Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Stomatology, Guanghua School of Stomatology, Sun Yat-sen University, Guangzhou 510080, China. Electronic address:

Cuproptosis is a newly discovered form of non-apoptotic cell death. Cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs) can secrete various bioactive substances, including exosomes, to promote tumor progression. However, the impact of CAFs on the regulation of copper metabolism and cuproptosis in oral squamous cell carcinomas (OSCC) has not been investigated.
