The impact of diet-induced maternal obesity on offspring airway hyperresponsiveness was studied in a diversity outbred mouse model that mirrors human genetic diversity. Female mice were started on high-fat or regular diet 8 weeks before breeding and throughout pregnancy and lactation. After weaning, all offspring were fed a regular diet.

The pyloric sphincter receives parasympathetic vagal innervation from the dorsal motor nucleus of the vagus (DMV). However, little is known about its higher-order neurons and the nuclei that engage the DMV neurons controlling the pylorus. The purpose of the present study was twofold.

Leaky gut, an altered intestinal barrier function, has been described in many diseases such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). We have recently demonstrated that orexin in the brain blocked leaky gut in rats, suggesting that the brain plays a role in regulation of intestinal barrier function. In the present study, we tried to clarify whether GLP-1 acts centrally in the brain to regulate intestinal barrier function and its mechanism.

Background: The role of cholinergic receptors in the regulation of duodenal mucosal permeability in vivo is currently not fully described.
Aims: To elucidate the impact of nicotinic and muscarinic acetylcholine receptor signaling in response to luminal hypotonicity (50 mM NaCl) in the proximal small intestine of rat.
Methods: The effect on duodenal blood-to-lumen clearance of Cr-EDTA (i.

In Brief: In the proestrus day, the neural and endocrine signals modulate ovarian function. This study shows vagus nerve plays a role in the multisynaptic pathways of communication between the suprachiasmatic nucleus and the ovaries where such neural information determines ovulation.
Abstract: The suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN) regulates the activity of several peripheral organs through a parasympathetic-sympathetic pathway.
