Purpose: Appropriate opioid management is crucial to reduce opioid overdose risk for ICU surgical patients, which can lead to severe complications. Accurately predicting postoperative opioid needs and understanding the associated factors can effectively guide appropriate opioid use, significantly enhancing patient safety and recovery outcomes. Although machine learning models can accurately predict postoperative opioid needs, lacking interpretability hinders their adoption in clinical practice.

Aims And Background: Local anesthetics play a crucial role in pain management in pediatric dentistry, where anxiety and fear are common among young patients. This study aimed to compare the anesthetic efficacy of 2% lignocaine with a 20-gauge needle in an inferior alveolar nerve block (IANB) and 4% articaine with a 24-gauge needle in a buccal nerve block (BNB) during the extraction of dentoalveolar abscesses in children aged 5-11 years.

Materials And Methods: A 12-month randomized controlled trial involving 100 healthy children was conducted following ethical standards.

Flail chest is a life-threatening condition characterized by multiple rib fractures that result in a partially free rib cage. Thoracic paravertebral block (TPVB) allows visualization of the needle tip under ultrasound guidance and can be safely performed, unlike epidural anesthesia where the needle tip cannot be visualized. Here, we describe a case of flail chest in whom TPVB was used, as it provides the same level of analgesia as epidural anesthesia and has a perfect analgesic effect.

Dynamic carotid compression arising from a change in patient position is a rare complication of goitre, with the potential for cerebral ischaemia and infarction. In this report, a 37-year-old woman presented with a multi-nodular goitre with clinical features concerning for transient cerebral ischaemia. The anaesthetic management and neurological monitoring used to mitigate the risk of cerebral ischaemia during thyroidectomy is described and the literature surrounding this rare complication is explored.
