Hemolysin co-regulated protein 1 (Hcp1) is a component of the cluster 1 Type VI secretion system (T6SS1) that plays a key role during the intracellular lifecycle of Burkholderia pseudomallei. Hcp1 is recognized as a promising target antigen for developing melioidosis diagnostics and vaccines. While the gene encoding Hcp1 is retained across B.

The nuclear lamina (NL) lines the nuclear envelope (NE) to maintain nuclear structure in metazoan cells. The major NL components, the nuclear lamins contribute to the protection against NE rupture induced by mechanical stress. Lamin A (LA) and a short form of the splicing variant lamin C (LC) are diffused from the nucleoplasm to sites of NE rupture in immortalized mouse embryonic fibroblasts (MEFs).

Hoyeraal-Hreidarsson syndrome: a case report of dyskeratosis congenita with a novel PARN gene mutation.

Ann Med Surg (Lond)

December 2024

University of Health Sciences, Adana Faculty of Medicine, Adana City Education and Research Hospital, Department of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology, Adana, Turkey.

Introduction And Importance: Dyskeratosis congenita (DC) is a rare multisystem disorder primarily characterized by bone marrow failure due to telomere shortening. Typical clinical features include oral leukoplakia, skin hyperpigmentation, and nail dystrophy, along with an increased risk of malignancies. Hoyeraal-Hreidarsson syndrome (HH), a severe variant of DC, is associated with profound neurological and immunological complications, emphasizing the importance of early diagnosis and genetic evaluation to guide appropriate management.

Biopanning methods to select target-specific Nanobodies® (Nbs) involve presenting the antigen, immobilized on plastic plates or magnetic beads, to Nb libraries displayed on phage. Most routines are operator-dependent, labor-intensive and often material- and time-consuming. Here we validate an improved panning strategy that uses biosensors to present the antigen to phage-displayed Nbs in a well.

Purpose: As certain vaccine serotypes are still circulating within the community during the PCV13 era, we aimed to delineate the clinical features and assess the immunity following breakthrough infections in children.

Methods: 101 PCVs-vaccinated children < 18 years with culture confirmed PCV13 serotype breakthrough infection (25/101, invasive pneumococcal disease [IPD]) was identified in Taiwan in 2015-2019. Immunoglobulin G (IgG) antibody levels, IgM memory B cells (MBCs), and isotype-switched immunoglobulin (sIg) MBC specific to serotypes 3, 14, 19 A were assessed prior to and one month after an additional PCV13 booster in 9 patients.
