The increase of severe cases of acute tonsillitis (AT) is presently marked. Severe cases of AT disturb immune and metabolic homoeostasis initiating the development of disease. Therapy optimization is required to select the best treatment.

Human cord blood cells were shown to produce interferon-alpha- and -gamma in vitro, both spontaneously and following adequate induction. Transplantation of human blood cord cells to mice led to endogenous interferonogenesis activation, serum interferon levels as well as interferon-alpha and interferon-gamma synthesis by activated peripheral blood leucocytes becoming higher. The maximal interferon accumulation in murine blood sera following transplantation did not coincide with interferonogenesis dynamics observed due to the effect of standard early and late interferon inducers - poly I:C and ridostin, respectively.

Interferon titers in the blood and brain of mice and their protection from the herpes virus were compared after the animal exposure to poly(G).poly(C) duplex, both native and modified with cis-diammine dichloroplatinum (II). It was shown that the duplex platination especially at the level of the poly(G) strand resulted in sharp rising of the interferon titers in the extracts of the animal brain and rearrangement of the types of interferon induced in the brain to predominance of gamma-interferon.

Study of the interferon system parameters, natural killer activity, and immunologic characteristics in patients with acute tick-borne encephalitis confirmed that addition of interferon preparations to combined therapy is pathogenetically justified. Reaferon was conducive to shortening of the manifest period of the disease and to alleviation of its symptoms, but it depressed its own interferonogenesis. Viferon had not only a positive impact on the time course of clinical parameters, but promoted a more active recovery of interferon production and immunologic parameters.

Parameters of physical constituents of the agitation process and mass-exchange characteristics of the suggested bioreactor for suspension cultivation of pig splenocytes are determined. The effect of hydrodynamic conditions on viability and interferon-synthesizing activity of cells in production of alpha-interferon of pigs has been studied. The relation existing between interferonogenesis processes proceeding under suspension and under stationary biosynthesis has been analyzed by the pair correlation method.
