Recalcitrant bacterial infections can be caused by various types of dormant bacteria, including persisters and viable but nonculturable (VBNC) cells. Despite their clinical importance, we know fairly little about bacterial dormancy development and recovery. In this study, new 2-indolinone-indole hybrid compounds (4a-s) carrying a benzoyl moiety were synthesized and their cytotoxic effects were examined against pancreatic (MIA-PaCa-2) and colon (HT-29 and HCT-116) cancer cells by MTT assays. Most of the tested compounds exhibited a better inhibitory activity and safety profile than the reference standard sunitinib malate against MIA-PaCa-2 and HCT-116 cancer cells. Compound 4e displayed the greatest cytotoxic effect on HCT-116 cell with an IC value of 0.

Frost damage to apple flowers significantly affects both the quality and yield of apples, potentially leading to substantial economic losses. This study investigates the application of the environmentally friendly plant hormone 24-epibrassinolide (EBR) on apple flowers to assess its effects under frost stress conditions. The findings indicate that exogenous EBR treatment maintained favorable flower morphology, mitigated pistil browning, and reduced ion leakage.
