Background: Although controversially discussed, paclitaxel is the only clinically proven drug that inhibits restenosis when released from drug-coated balloons (DCBs). Limus drugs are currently being explored as alternatives. The aim of the preclinical studies was to investigate drug candidates beyond paclitaxel considered for balloon coating.

Population pharmacokinetic modeling of intramuscular and oral dexamethasone and betamethasone in Indian women.

J Pharmacokinet Pharmacodyn

April 2021

School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, State University of New York, University of Buffalo, Buffalo, NY, USA.

Population analysis of pharmacokinetic data for five differing dosage forms and routes for dexamethasone and betamethasone in 48 healthy nonpregnant Indian women was performed that accounted for a partial and complex cross-over design. Single doses of 6 mg dexamethasone phosphate (DEX-P), betamethasone phosphate (BET-P), or 1:1 mixture of betamethasone phosphate and acetate (BET-PA) were administered orally (PO) or intramuscularly (IM). Plasma concentrations collected for two periods over 96 h were described with a two-compartment model with differing PO and IM first-order absorption inputs.

Enzymatically crosslinked tyramine-gellan gum hydrogels as drug delivery system for rheumatoid arthritis treatment.

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic inflammatory disease characterized by joint synovial inflammation, as well as cartilage and bone tissue destruction. Current strategies for the treatment of RA can reduce joint inflammation, but the treatment options still represent stability concerns since they are not sufficient and present a fast clearing. Thus, several drug delivery systems (DDS) have been advanced to tackle this limitation.

Study on the protection of dextran on erythrocytes during drug loading.

Colloids Surf B Biointerfaces

May 2020

School of Pharmacy, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, 200240, Shanghai, China. Electronic address:

In comparison to other carriers, erythrocytes (red blood cells, RBCs) hold the advantages of unmatched long circulation, biocompatibility and biodegradability. However, because of the defects in RBCs carriers caused by the drug loading process, the biological activities of drug-loaded RBCs are worse than those of natural RBCs (NRBCs). We aim to study the protective effect of dextran on the activity of drug-loaded RBCs.
