A series of cyclometallated gold(III) complexes 21-27 of general formula [Au(dppta)(azdtc)Cl] (dppta = ,-diisopropyl-,-diphenylphosphinothioic amide-κC,S; azdtc = azol(in)ium-2-dithiocarboxylate-κS) were prepared and characterized by spectroscopic and diffractometric techniques. Treatment of [Au(dppta)(azdtc)Cl] complexes with methanol led to their quantitative transformation into a novel family of (C^S, S^S)-cyclometallated gold(III) complexes of general formula [Au(dppta)(azmtd)] (azmdt = azol(in)ium-2-(methoxy)methanedithiol-κS,S) 28-34. All the [Au(dppta)(azdtc)Cl] complexes 21-27 catalyzed the alkylation of indoles, whereas [Au(dppta)(azmtd)] complexes 28-34 were inactive.

Albendazole is a benzimidazole-type active pharmaceutical ingredient, and one of the most effective broad-spectrum anthelminthic agents. The drug has two solid-state forms (ALB I and ALB II) which are desmotropes; both of them seem to be currently marketed. However, using the wrong crystalline solid form for formulation may have an undesired impact on the physicochemical and/or bioavailability properties of the drug product.

Label-free optical biosensors are an invaluable tool for molecular interaction analysis. Over the past 30 years, refractometric biosensors and, in particular, surface plasmon resonance have matured to the standard of this field despite a significant cross reactivity to environmental and experimental noise sources. In this paper, we demonstrate that sensors that apply the spatial affinity lock-in principle (part I) and perform readout by diffraction overcome the drawbacks of established refractometric biosensors.

Doripenem, an ultrabroad spectrum-injectable antibiotic belonging to the wide class of carbapenem beta-lactams, is commonly marketed as powders of a pure monohydrate phase. Here, we have selectively prepared another hydrated phase (a dihydrate) and determined the crystal structure of both forms by state-of-the art powder diffraction methods. Both phases crystallize in the monoclinic P21 space group, and, to some extent, are structurally related.
