Background: Some scholars who are skeptical about open-access mega journals (OAMJs) have argued that low-quality papers are often difficult to publish in more prestigious and authoritative journals, and OAMJs may be their main destination.

Objective: This study aims to evaluate the academic quality of OAMJs and highlight their important role in clinical medicine. To achieve this aim, authoritative journals and representative OAMJs in this field were selected as research objects.

Three-dimensional measurement of the depth of invasion in oral squamous cell carcinoma samples using Lugol's iodine-enhanced micro-computed tomography: an original study.

J Appl Oral Sci

January 2025

Nanjing University, Research Institute of Stomatology, Affiliated Hospital of Medical School, Nanjing Stomatological Hospital, Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Trauma Orthognathic Plastic Surgery, Nanjing, China.

Objectives: Depth of invasion (DOI) in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) guides treatment and prognosis but lacks three-dimensional (3D) insight. Thus, this study aimed to investigate the feasibility and accuracy of Lugol's iodine-enhanced micro-computed tomography (CT) for the 3D measurement of DOI in OSCC samples.

Methodology: In total, 50 in vitro OSCC samples from Nanjing Stomatological Hospital (July 2022 to January 2024) were subjected to micro-CT imaging with a slice thickness of 50 μm following 3% Lugol iodine staining for 12 h, followed by pathological examination and staining.

Factors affecting iron and manganese dissolution in groundwater: treatments with simultaneous oxidation and precipitation methods.

Environ Technol

January 2025

Tekirdağ Metropolitan Municipality, TESKİ, Water and Sewerage Administration, Tekirdağ, Turkey.

This study explores variations in groundwater (GW) pH, conductivity, ammonium, iron, and manganese parameters to reveal prospective interactions having an impact on the dissolved metal concentrations. To this end, bivariate and partial correlation procedures were applied to the data to obtain incisive evaluation. Besides characterisation efforts, photocatalytic iron and manganese removal experiments were also carried out with Ni-doped TiO nano-composite thin films (TFs) on real GW samples.
