Background: Mobile ex vivo lung perfusion (mEVLP) allows transportation of lung allografts while maintaining ventilation and perfusion and has demonstrated safety and efficacy with the potential to expand organ utilization. A nationwide organ recovery service has been implemented to provide surgical expertise for recovery alongside mEVLP transportation services.

Methods: We reviewed patients at our institution who underwent lung transplantation with donor lungs procured with this program.

We report 2 rare cases of tetraplegia after total aortic arch replacement with frozen elephant trunk that were attributable to cervical spinal stenosis. Cervical spinal stenosis can increase the vulnerability of the spinal cord to ischemia and may increase the risk of spinal cord injury in operation with circulatory arrest.

Lymphocytic fulminant myocarditis results in severe myocardial damage that is irreversible in some patients. In these patients, mechanical circulatory support, as the main treatment, is difficult. We describe a patient with a myocarditis-associated arrested heart who underwent successful left ventricular assist device implantation and extracardiac total cavopulmonary connection (EC-TCPC).

Zebrafish as a Visible Neuroinflammation Model for Evaluating the Anti-Inflammation Effect of Curcumin-Loaded Ferritin Nanoparticles.

ACS Appl Mater Interfaces

January 2025

State Key Laboratory of Quality Research in Chinese Medicine, Institute of Chinese Medical Sciences, University of Macau, Taipa, Macau 999078, China.

It is crucial to inhibit the neuroinflammation response as it is a prominent factor contributing to the pathogenesis of neurodegenerative disorders. However, the limited development of neuroinflammation models dramatically hinders the efficiency of nanomedicine discovery. In recent years, the optically transparent zebrafish model provided unique advantages for imaging of the whole body, allowing the progression of the disease to be visualized.

BACKGROUND Swallowing is a complex behavior involving the musculoskeletal system and higher-order brain functions. We investigated the effects of different modalities of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) on the unaffected hemisphere and observed correlation between suprahyoid muscle activity and cortical activation in unilateral stroke patients when swallowing saliva, based on functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS). MATERIAL AND METHODS From November 2022 to March 2023, twenty-five patients with unilateral stroke were screened using computed tomography or magnetic resonance imaging and identified via a video fluoroscopic swallow study.
