Graphene, a two-dimensional material featuring densely packed sp-hybridized carbon atoms arranged in a honeycomb lattice, has revolutionized material science. Laser-induced graphene (LIG) represents a breakthrough method for producing graphene from both commercial and natural precursors via direct laser writing, offering advantages such as simplicity, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness. This study demonstrates a novel approach to synthesize a composite material exclusively from a porous organic polymer (POP) by direct femtosecond laser writing on a compressed imide-linked porous organic polymer substrate.

Oxidative byproducts of cannabidiol (CBD) are known to be cytotoxic. However, CBD susceptibility to oxidation and resulting toxicity dissolved in two common solvents, ethanol (EtOH) and dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO), is seldom discussed. Furthermore, CBD products contain a wide range of concentrations, making it challenging to link general health risks associated with CBD cytotoxicity.

The use of Pleurotus ostreatus by-products for the preparation of a gel-like polysaccharide with bioactive properties.

Int J Biol Macromol

January 2025

Instituto de Pesquisa Pelé Pequeno Príncipe, 80240-020 Curitiba, PR, Brazil; Faculdades Pequeno Príncipe, 80230-020 Curitiba, PR, Brazil. Electronic address:

The mushroom Pleurotus ostreatus is widely produced in Brazil and its stipes are discarded before commercialization. In the present study, this agricultural fungal waste (mushroom stipes), was analyzed by preparing an aqueous extract and obtaining the polysaccharides by ethanol precipitation (POS-extract). The fraction presented 37 % of carbohydrates and small amounts of proteins and phenolic compounds.

Steamed Polygonatum sibiricum is widely applied in clinical practice for its tonic effect on gastrointestinal tract. A novel polysaccharide named PSSP-EF was extracted from the steamed roots of Polygonatum sibiricum using hot water extraction, ethanol precipitation, and chromatographic purification. PSSP-EF, with a molecular weight of 2.

Direct thrombin inhibitors (designated as EuRL-DTIs) were partially purified from ethanol extracts of Euphorbia resinifera O.Berg latex. The obtained EuRL-DTIs comprised four major compounds: two isomers of phenolic compounds (CHO) and two amide compounds (tentatively identified as CHNO and CHNO), as identified by liquid chromatography and electrospray ionisation quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry (LC-ESI-QTOF-MS/MS), attenuated total reflection-Fourier transform infrared (ATR-FTIR) spectroscopy, and/or nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy.
