Background: Nuclear medicine diagnostic and treatment procedures represent significant sources of ionizing radiation exposure for both staff and patients. Consequently, assessing and optimizing radiation doses are crucial to minimize potential side effects.

Aim: This study seeks to evaluate the effective radiation doses associated with common diagnostic and treatment procedures, as well as propose diagnostic reference levels (DRLs), within two nuclear medicine centers in Madinah, Saudi Arabia.

In Ga-citrate scintigraphy (Ga-S), visual assessment is used by evaluating renal-uptake comparison with liver and spine and is simple and objective. We adopted the standardized uptake value (SUV) for Ga-citrate and proposed two quantitative indices, active nephritis volume (ANV) and total nephritis uptake (TNU). This study clarified the utility of new Ga-S-based quantitative indices in nephritis management.

Acute tubulointerstitial nephritis (ATIN), a rare cause of acute kidney injury in children, is caused by various factors such as drugs, infection, and systemic inflammation. We herein present a case of ATIN with mild encephalitis/encephalopathy with reversible splenial lesion (MERS)-like findings on head magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), which was associated with human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination. A 14-year-old girl presented to our hospital with a high fever for 5 days.

Standard non-invasive methods for diagnosing and selecting the best treatment for osteomyelitis in patients with multiple chronic conditions remain to be established. We aimed to evaluate the ability of quantitative Ga-citrate single-photon emission computed tomography ( Ga-SPECT/CT) to determine the indication for either non-surgical treatment or osteotomy in patients with lower-limb osteomyelitis (LLOM) associated with diabetes mellitus and lower-extremity ischemia, based on monitoring of inflammatory activity in bone tissue. This single-centre prospective study conducted from January 2012 to July 2017 included 90 consecutive patients with suspected LLOM.
