Mucins 5AC (MUC5AC) and 5B (MUC5B) are the major mucins providing the organizing framework for the airway's mucus gel. We retrieved bronchial mucosal biopsies and bronchial wash (BW) samples through bronchoscopy from patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease ( = 38), healthy never-smokers ( = 40), and smokers with normal lung function ( = 40). The expression of MUC5AC and MUC5B was assessed immunohistochemically.

The gastric mucosal barrier, through its gastric pits, serves as a pathway for secretions, ensuring that mucus produced by the gastric glands is transferred to the gastric lumen, providing stable protection. Here a bioinspired liquid pockets material is shown, composed of a thermo-driven hydrogel that acts as an external activation unit to release interflowing liquid responsively, and porous matrices that serve as interconnected pockets to transfer it, enabling controlled internal flow and adaptive barrier functionality. Experiments and theoretical analysis demonstrate the stability and regulatory mechanisms of these liquid pockets, based on the interconnected pockets between the external activation unit and internal fluid flow.

Purpose: During COVID-19, significant changes in protein abundance can be linked with disease-related processes. The mass spectrometry-based proteomics of COVID-19-related biomarkers can help with the prognosis and diagnosis of this severe disease.
Design: Here, we surveyed scientific works in terms of proteomic analysis of solid tissues and non-blood fluids from COVID-19 patients.

Introduction: Dental impaction may be due to several etiological factors, including genetic conditions, lack of space, failure of primary tooth resorption and prolonged retention of these teeth, presence of intraosseous cysts, and trauma in the region. The ranula is a mucus-filled cyst-like mass that usually originates from extravasation of mucus from the sublingual gland.
Case Description: A 7-year-old Saudi female presented to the pediatric dental clinic at Prince Mohammed Bin Abdulaziz Hospital (PMBAH), Al-Madinah al-Munawwarah, Saudi Arabia, with complicated orodental problems that were identified after clinical and radiological assessment, including the following: an intruded primary central incisor in close relation to the nasal cavity, hypodontia, hypomineralization, multiple carious teeth, abscess, and sublingual ranula.
