lncRNA SNHG6 Knockdown Promotes Microglial M2 Polarization and Alleviates Spinal Cord Injury via Regulating the miR-182-5p/NEUROD4 Axis.

Appl Biochem Biotechnol

January 2025

Department of Neurosurgery, General Medical 300 Hospital, No. 420 Huanghe Road, Guiyang City, 550006, Guizhou Province, China.

Spinal cord injury (SCI) is one of the devastating neurological disorders that leads to a loss of motor and sensory functions. Long non-coding RNA small nucleolar RNA host gene 6 (lncRNA SNHG6) plays a crucial role in inflammatory regulation across various diseases. This study investigates the role of SNHG6 in SCI development and its underlying regulatory mechanisms.

Secretogranin III: a promising therapeutic target for intraocular neovascular lesions.

Int Ophthalmol

January 2025

Department of Ophthalmology, The Second Hospital of Jilin University, #218 Ziqiang Street, Changchun, 130041, Jilin, China.

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to investigate the role of Secretogranin III (Scg3) in the pathogenesis of intraocular neovascular diseases and assess its potential as a therapeutic target for novel treatment strategies.

Methods: A literature review was conducted to examine the expression of Scg3 in intraocular neovascular diseases. We reviewed studies on the interaction of Scg3 with its homologous receptors and its effect on endothelial cell proliferation, migration, and vascular permeability-key processes involved in angiogenesis and neovascularization.

Waxy maize is highly preferred diet in developing countries due to its high amylopectin content. Enriching amylopectin in biofortified maize meets food security and fulfils the demand of rising industrial applications, especially bioethanol. The mutant waxy1 (wx1) gene is responsible for increased amylopectin in maize starch, with a wide range of food and industrial applications.

Designing Fluorescent Interfaces at Hotspots in a Plasmonic Nanopore for Homologous Optoelectronic Sensing.

Small

January 2025

Department of Chemistry and the MOE Key Laboratory of Spectrochemical Analysis & Instrumentation, College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Xiamen University, Xiamen, 361005, P. R. China.

In this work, a site-selective functionalization strategy is proposed for modifying fluorescent dyes in the plasmonic nanopore, which highlights building optoelectronic dual-signal sensing interfaces at "hotspots" locations to construct multiparameter detection nanosensor. Finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) simulations confirmed the high-intensity electromagnetic field due to plasmonic nanostructure. It is demonstrated that adjusting the distance between the nanopore inner wall and fluorophore prevented the fluorescence quenching, resulting in more than a thirty fold fluorescence enhancement.

The antifungal drugs of the echinocandin family show high efficacy against Aspergillus fumigatus. However, their paradoxical effect, which restores fungal growth at high drug concentrations, and the emergence of resistant strains necessitate improvements. We identified 13 fluoroquinolone compounds from a chemical library containing 10,000 compounds that potentiate the antifungal activity of caspofungin.
