Objective: This study aimed to investigate the possible mechanism through which acupuncture protects ovaries with Poor Ovarian Response (POR) in rats based on microRNA (miRNA).

Methods: Thirty-six SPF SD female non-pregnant rats aged 8 weeks were randomly divided into the blank group, model group, and acupuncture group, with 12 rats in each group. According to the group, the rats were given gavage of Tripterygium wilfordii polyglycosides suspension for 14 days to establish the model of POR, and then the rats were treated with acupuncture for 2 weeks, once a day, for 20 minutes.

Low background catalytic redox recycling coupled with hybridization chain reaction amplification for highly sensitive electrochemical aptamer luteinizing hormone assay.

Bioelectrochemistry

The concentration variation of luteinizing hormone (LH) regulates the cell cycle of oocyte meiosis and significantly affect the whole reproductive cycle. Sensitively quantifying the LH biomarker therefore plays an important role for reproductive disease diagnosis. By coupling a new low background catalytic redox recycling strategy with hybridization chain reaction (HCR), we propose a highly sensitive bio-electrochemical aptamer LH sensing method.

Key predictors of fertility: Exploring the role of Vitamin-D.

Pak J Med Sci

November 2024

Rehana Rehman, Professor, Department of Biological and Biomedical Sciences, Aga Khan University, Karachi, Pakistan.

Background & Objectives: The relationship of Vitamin-D (VD) with Luteinizing Hormone (LH), Follicle stimulating Hormone (FSH) and Anti Mullerian Hormone (AMH) is recognized. This study was conducted to determine whether VD is a predictor of fertility and investigate its relationship with female reproductive hormones and markers of ovarian reserve in female population of Karachi.

Methods: A cross-sectional study was performed from July 2020 to June 2022 at the Aga Khan University Hospital (AKUH) with recruitment of 135 fertile and infertile subjects.

Mature coconut water (MCW) has been demonstrated to contain bioactive compounds with antioxidant properties. In vivo research showed that MCW supplementation increased semen quality in rats, suggesting that it may boost reproductive performance. This study investigated the impact of MCW on the reproduction of Boer bucks.

Background: The efficiency and profitability of animal farming systems are closely linked to the reproductive success of livestock, which requires effective management through biological, hormonal, and nutritional strategies. The "male effect," referring to the influence of male pheromones on female reproductive hormones, offers several benefits. This leads to improved reproductive management, better timing of breeding, and increased fertility rates.
