Chronic coughing is a common complaint in small animal medicine and it has an extensive differential diagnosis with very different treatment and prognosis. Coughing is considered chronic when it lasts at least 8 weeks. This retrospective study aimed to describe the most common causes of chronic coughing in a population of dogs that presented to a referral hospital in England between January 2012 and December 2021.

Background: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a common treatable disease often diagnosed in patients with risk factors after a prolonged period with suggestive symptoms. Our qualitative study aimed to identify barriers to establishing diagnosis in the natural history of this condition.
Methods: An inductive thematic analysis was performed on structured interviews with patients, general practitioners (GPs) and pulmonologists in France.

Background: Cardiovascular, respiratory, and musculoskeletal disease are among the leading causes of disability in middle-aged and older people. Health and lifestyle factors in youth have known associations with cardiovascular or respiratory disease in adulthood, but largely unknown associations with musculoskeletal disease.
Methods And Findings: We included approximately 40,000 18-year-old Swedish males, who completed their conscription examination in 1969 to 1970, followed up until age of 60 years.
Introduction Bronchoscopic spray cryotherapy (SCT) is a novel treatment showing promise for chronic bronchitis (CB), characterized by excessive mucus secretion and productive cough. A large animal model for preclinical research of SCT is lacking, and its treatment's efficacy and mechanisms for CB are not well understood. Methods Eight Labradors were exposed to 200 ppm SO2 for 6 months to develop a CB model.

Background: Some individuals never achieve normal peak FEV in early adulthood. It is unknown if this is due to airflow limitation and/or lung restriction.
Methods: To investigate this, we: (1) looked forward in 19,791 participants in the Dutch Lifelines general population cohort aged 25-35 years with 5-year follow-up; and (2) looked backwards in 2032 participants in the Swedish BAMSE birth cohort with spirometry at 24 years of age but also at 16 and/or 8 years.
