Background/aim: The CD155/TIGIT axis has recently emerged as a promising immunotherapeutic target in several malignancies. However, its prognostic relevance within the tumor microenvironment (TME) in patients with locally advanced rectal cancer (LARC) who have received neo-adjuvant chemoradiotherapy (neoCRT) remains unclarified.

Materials And Methods: The levels of tumor CD155 and TIGIT T cells in pair-matched pre-neoCRT biopsies and post-neoCRT surgical tissues were evaluated in 110 LARC tissues using immunohistochemistry.

The Prognostic Impact of SIRT1, STAT3, and YAP1 in Colorectal Carcinoma.

Appl Immunohistochem Mol Morphol

January 2025

Department of Pathology, Faculty of Medicine, Menoufia University, Shebein Elkom, Egypt.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the most common gastrointestinal malignancy with a complicated behavior including relapse, metastasis, and development of resistance to chemotherapeutic drugs. Silent information regulator 2 homologue 1 (SIRT1), signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3), and yes-associated protein (YAP) are cancer-related genes that have unclarified actions and even controversial roles in many human cancers including CRC. The current study aimed to evaluate the prognostic roles of SIRT1, STAT3, and YAP in CRC.

Roles for TRPV4 in disease: A discussion of possible mechanisms.

Cell Calcium

December 2024

Departamento de Neurociencia Cognitiva, Instituto de Fisiología Celular, Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, Ciudad de México, 04510, Mexico. Electronic address:

The transient receptor potential vanilloid 4 (TRPV4) ion channel is a ubiquitously expressed Ca-permeable ion channel that controls intracellular calcium ([Ca]) homeostasis in various types of cells. The physiological roles for TRPV4 are tissue specific and the mechanisms behind this specificity remain mostly unclarified. It is noteworthy that mutations in the TRPV4 channel have been associated to a broad spectrum of congenital diseases, with most of these mutations mainly resulting in gain-of-function.

Purpose Of Review: The aim of this review is to explore a possible link between immunological candidate proteins, identified through modern proteomic techniques, and preeclampsia (PE) and fetal growth restriction (FGR).

Recent Findings: Proteomics has become a promising tool in the search for disease pathways, drug targets, and biomarkers. PE and FGR are adverse pregnancy complications with supposed immunological involvement in their pathogenesis, but no circulating immunological biomarkers are currently established for diagnosis and risk stratification.

Objective: Although the association between admission glucose (AG) and major adverse cardiac events (MACE) is well-documented, its relationship with 30-day MACE in patients presenting with cardiac chest pain remains unclarified. In light of this, this study aims to examine the correlation between AG levels and the incidence of MACE in patients with chest pain in an emergency setting.

Materials And Methods: We consecutively enrolled patients who presented to the emergency department for chest pain symptoms within 24 h from the EMPACT cohort in Eastern China (clinicaltrials.
