Hemocyanins are oxygen-transporting glycoproteins in the hemolymph of some invertebrate species that attracted scientific interest as potential anticancer agents. The present study aims to assess the and anticancer activity of hemocyanins isolated from , , and in the Graffi myeloid tumor model. The antitumor activity of the hemocyanins was determined by a MTT test and cytomorphological analysis by fluorescent and transmission electron microscopy.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate the incidence of clinically significant anterior chamber inflammation in a combined surgery, namely, phacoemulsification and Ex-Press miniature glaucoma device implantation, compared to phacoemulsification alone.
Methods: A retrospective comparative study of a consecutive series of 210 participants above 18 years of age diagnosed with significant cataract and who required glaucoma surgery, namely, Ex-Press miniature glaucoma device implantation or cataract alone in one or both eyes. Nanofibrous implants containing quaternized chitosan (QCh), poly(L-lactide-co-D,L-lactide) (coPLA), and the antitumor drug doxorubicin (DOX) were fabricated by electrospinning. The surface chemical composition and the morphology of the implants were characterized by XPS and SEM. In vitro cell viability studies demonstrated that QCh- and DOX-based implants exhibited high cytotoxicity against Graffi tumor cells.

Manufacturing procedures for cellular therapies are continuously improved with particular emphasis on product safety. We previously developed a dendritic cell (DC) cancer vaccine technology platform that uses clinical grade lipopolysaccharide (LPS) and interferon (IFN)-y for the maturation of monocyte derived DCs. DCs are frozen after 6 hrs exposure at a semi-mature stage (smDCs) retaining the capacity to secret interleukin (IL)-12 and thus support cytolytic T-cell responses, which is lost at full maturation.
