As the clinical applicability of peripheral nerve stimulation (PNS) expands, the need for PNS-specific safety criteria becomes pressing. This study addresses this need, utilizing a novel machine learning and computational bio-electromagnetics modeling platform to establish a safety criterion that captures the effects of fields and currents induced on axons. Our approach is comprised of three steps: experimentation, model creation, and predictive simulation.

Structural Transformation and Degradation of Cu Oxide Nanocatalysts during Electrochemical CO Reduction.

J Am Chem Soc

January 2025

Liquid Sunlight Alliance, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, 1 Cyclotron Road, Berkeley, California 94720, United States.

The electrochemical CO reduction reaction (CORR) holds enormous potential as a carbon-neutral route to the sustainable production of fuels and platform chemicals. The durability for long-term operation is currently inadequate for commercialization, however, and the underlying deactivation process remains elusive. A fundamental understanding of the degradation mechanism of electrocatalysts, which can dictate the overall device performance, is needed.

Background: Prenatal development of autonomic innervation of sinus venosus-related structures might be related to atrial arrhythmias later in life. Most of the pioneering studies providing embryological background are conducted in animal models. To date, a detailed comparison with the human cardiac autonomic nervous system (cANS) is lacking.

Based on the symmetric initiation mechanism of double-wing cracks in coal rock mass induced by high-pressure electro-recoil water pressure, fracturing experiments have been performed on coal rock mass under different water pressures and discharge conditions using high-voltage electric pulse hydraulic fracturing devices. Combined with CT scans, the crack spatial distribution inside the post-break coal rock mass was analyzed and found that the edge of the water injection hole is prone to produce double-wing cracks along the drilling hole diameter. ABAQUS is used to verify the physical test and extend the test conditions, the geometric parameter change, morphological expansion rule and crack initiation mechanism of double-wing crack in coal rock mass under different discharge conditions and ground stress conditions are studied.

The potential of photon-counting CT for the improved precision of lung nodule radiomics.

Phys Med Biol

January 2025

Department of Radiology, Duke University, Suite 302 Hock Plaza, 2424 Erwin Rd, Durham, North Carolina, 27708-0187, UNITED STATES.

Lung nodule appearance may provide prognostic information, as the presence of spiculation increases the suspicion of a nodule being cancerous. Spiculations can be quantified using morphological radiomics features extracted from CT images. Radiomics features can be affected by the acquisition parameters and scanner technologies; thus, it is essential to identify imaging conditions that provide reliable measurements, particularly for emerging technologies like photon-counting CT.
