Cervical cancer is one of the biggest challenges in global health, thus it forms a critical need for early detection technologies that could improve patient prognosis and inform treatment decisions. This development in the form of an early detection mechanism increases the chances of successful treatment and survival, as early diagnosis promptly offers interventions that can dramatically reduce the rate of deaths attributed to this disease. Here, a customized Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) model is proposed for cervical cancerous cell detection.

Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) comprises more than 90% of oral cavity cancer and remains the leading cause of death in oral disease. Limited studies have been conducted to evaluate cellular histomorphometry changes in OSCC compared to premalignant lesions such as Dysplastic leukoplakia (DL), Nondysplastic leukoplakia (NDL), and normal epithelial. This cross-sectional descriptive-analytical study was conducted on total 72 samples, including superficial areas of squamous cell carcinoma (SCCSF), Invasive Front of Squamous Cell Carcinoma (SCCIF), Apparently Normal Adjacent Oral Mucosa (SCCANM) or normal margin, Dysplastic leukoplakia (DL), Nondysplastic leukoplakia (NDL), and normal oral mucosa tissue (NOM) ( = 12 per group).

The microbiome biomarkers of pregnant women's vaginal area predict preterm prelabor rupture in Western China.

Front Cell Infect Microbiol

November 2024

Department of Laboratory Medicine, West China Second University Hospital, Sichuan University, Chengdu, China.

Article Synopsis
  • * The study used various microbiological tests and high-throughput sequencing to analyze vaginal microbiota, revealing that women with PPROM had a higher presence of certain bacteria compared to those with normal full-term labor.
  • * Results showed that an abnormal vaginal microbiome, characterized by specific opportunistic bacteria like E. coli and Streptococcus agalactiae, is a crucial risk factor for PPROM, indicating the importance of monitoring vaginal health in pregnancy.

Histone H3K9 Methylation Is Differentially Modified in Odontogenic Cyst and Tumors.

Eur J Dent

November 2024

Department of Oral Surgery and Oral Medicine, Faculty of Dentistry, Srinakharinwirot University, Bangkok, Thailand.

Objectives:  Histone modification in odontogenic lesions is mostly unexplored. Trimethylation of histone H3 at lysine residue 9 (H3K9Me3) has been studied in various pathologic conditions and showed biological significance promising for future therapeutic application. This study aimed to investigate the level and clinical relevance of the H3K9Me3 histone modification in odontogenic cysts and tumors.
