In the combined irradiation (the total dose of the thyroid uptake--15000 rad) the total incidence of tumors was close to that in isolated X-irradiation, but their multiplicity was much higher. The incidence of thyroid tumors (16.6%) was close to that in iodine-131 administration (17.7%, the absorbed dose--11000 rad) and x-irradiation (17.5%).

The test for somatic mutagenesis and recombination in Drosophila is one of the widely used approaches for determination of possible carcinogenic effects of chemical compounds. The use of heterozygotes for mutant tumor suppressor gene wts enables more direct evaluation of the blastomogenic effects of chemical compounds, by tumor formation in the adult flies. This study presents evaluation of the SMART effectiveness upon the use of Drosophila heterozygotes for the wts(P4) gene, first included into the test system.

The system may induce tumors in Drosophilidae, which are recorded in adult insects. The test uses recessive mutation in the suppressor gene of growth of warts (wts) tumors.

Renal pre-injection of methylcholantherene (MC) in a small dose insufficient to induce renal tumors in the study period, followed by dermal applications of this agent was shown to enhance a blastomogenic effect, as manifested by both early occurrence of precarcinogenic changes and early development of renal tumors at the site of primary injection of MC into the kidney. The effect of nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA) intermittently injected in a nephrotropic dose was studied in the second series of the experiments.

Following short-term local applications of high doses of N-methyl-N-nitrozourea and 7,2-dimethylbenz(a)antracen, the intercellular adhesion in the distal colon epithelium of ice retains increased at least for a month. The magnitude of this shift and its duration ops both with moving away from the area of application, or with reducing the doses of carcinogens to be closely related to the frequency of tumour production in the site of epithelium under chronic local applications of N-methyl-N-nitrozourea. After the application of noncarcinogenic methylurea or the subcutaneous injection of 1,2-dimethylhydrazine to the mice resistant to its carcinogenic action the wavy fluctuations of the magnitude of intercellular adhesion disappear within a week.
