Background: Atherosclerosis is a chronic inflammatory disease characterized by the accumulation of lipids and leukocytes within the arterial wall. By studying the aortic transcriptome of atherosclerosis-prone apolipoprotein E (ApoE) mice, we aimed to identify novel players in the progression of atherosclerosis.

Methods: RNA-Seq analysis was performed on aortas from ApoE and wild-type mice.

Establishment and Validation of a Machine-Learning Prediction Nomogram Based on Lymphocyte Subtyping for Intra-Abdominal Candidiasis in Septic Patients.

Clin Transl Sci

January 2025

Department of Critical Care Medicine, State Key Laboratory of Complex Severe and Rare Diseases, Peking Union Medical College Hospital, Chinese Academy of Medical Science and Peking Union Medical College, Beijing, China.

This study aimed to develop and validate a nomogram based on lymphocyte subtyping and clinical factors for the early and rapid prediction of Intra-abdominal candidiasis (IAC) in septic patients. A prospective cohort study of 633 consecutive patients diagnosed with sepsis and intra-abdominal infection (IAI) was performed. We assessed the clinical characteristics and lymphocyte subsets at the onset of IAI.

Natural killer (NK) cells can control metastasis through cytotoxicity and IFN-γ production independently of T cells in experimental metastasis mouse models. The inverse correlation between NK activity and metastasis incidence supports a critical role for NK cells in human metastatic surveillance. However, autologous NK cell therapy has shown limited benefit in treating patients with metastatic solid tumors.

Associations of neutrophil/high-density lipoprotein cholesterol ratio with frailty and its mortality.

Front Endocrinol (Lausanne)

January 2025

Department of Medical Intensive Care Unit, The First Affiliated Hospital, and College of Clinical Medicine of Henan University of Science and Technology, Luoyang, China.

Background: Frailty is an increasingly important determinant in the field of health, and its identification has important clinical significance in the field of critical care medicine. However, there are still a large number of challenges in quick and accurate identification of frailty. This study aims to evaluate the value of the neutrophil/high-density lipoprotein cholesterol ratio (NHR) in frailty and its long-term survival.

Unlabelled: The heterogeneity in clinical presentations in sickle cell disease (SCD) alters between crisis and steady state phases. Considering the pathophysiology, it is crucial to establish a disease-specific reference interval for hematological and biochemical parameters and identify the sensitive predictive markers for crisis. The case-control study included fifty-four healthy control, forty SCD cases in crisis state, and forty-six steady state cases.
