A 34-year-old male patient with recently diagnosed with medullary thyroid carcinoma underwent total thyroidectomy and radical neck dissection, requiring sharp dissection to separate the tumour from the trachea. He required post operative intubation due to bilateral vocal cord paralysis. He developed ischaemic necrosis of the upper two thirds of the trachea presenting with marked surgical emphysema and an infective wound.

The cases of head and neck cancer among persons with intellectual disability (PWID) are infrequently reported and therefore poorly understood. PWID often face increased barriers of access to healthcare, which can be further compounded when faced with a cancer diagnosis. This report presents the case of a 34-year-old Chinese female patient with Rett syndrome and intellectual disability, presenting with two primary cancers of the tongue and the trachea.

Tracheal adenoid cystic carcinoma is a rare malignancy. We report the case of a 65-year-old male who presented to our department due to a 3-month history of mild dysphagia without other associated symptoms. The neck, laryngeal, and hypopharyngeal examinations were normal.

We describe the novel occurrence of a adenocarcinoma involving the trachea, with distinct solid and glandular components, in a 34-year-old patient. We illustrate its morphological and immunophenotypic features and describe the molecular finding of an EWSR1::BEND2 gene fusion detected by next-generation sequencing (NGS). We discuss the findings in comparison to BEND2-fusion associated neoplasms reported in the head and neck region in the literature to date.

To explore the application of spiral tracheoplasty in the repair of large tracheal defects after the resection of trachea invaded by thyroid cancer. A retrospective analysis was performed on the clinical data of 11 patients, including 4 males and 7 females, aged from 36 to 67 years old, with large tracheal defects after tracheal resection due to thyroid papillary carcinoma invading the trachea in the Department of Otorhinolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery, Second Xiangya Hospital, Central South University from January 2019 to January 2022. The range of tracheal defects, time of tracheal reconstruction, postoperative complications and airway were recorded, and the patients were followed up for more than 24 months.
