We report a case of an elderly female with subacute submental neck swelling, dry cough, and a history of significant weight loss. Unexpectedly, a left submandibular chronic sialadenitis was noted on ultrasound of the neck, along with a thyroid nodule that, on biopsy, showed lymphocytic infiltration. High-resolution computed tomography of the lungs revealed multifocal irregular consolidations with lymphadenopathy, and possible infective causes, including tuberculosis, were ruled out after a thorough microbiological evaluation.

Aim: To characterize the deep dentinal caries microbiota in teeth diagnosed with normal pulp with deep caries (NP), reversible pulpitis (RP), symptomatic irreversible pulpitis (SIP), and asymptomatic irreversible pulpitis (AIP), and to identify potential key pathogens associated with pulpitis progression, exploring their roles in disease advancement.

Methodology: In this cross-sectional study, we collected 108 dentinal caries samples, categorized into NP (n = 27), RP (n = 27), SIP (n = 27), and AIP (n = 27), according to the American Association of Endodontists' diagnostic criteria. 2 NP samples and 2 RP samples were excluded due to contamination.

Palliative and End of Life Care, Specialty Programs, Alberta Health Services, Edmonton, AB, Canada.

BackgroundDyspnea is a prevalent and distressing symptom in interstitial lung diseases with significant effects on patients' quality of life and associated with poorer prognosis. Guidelines recommend a multidimensional dyspnea assessment tool. We developed a validated 9-item scale, the Edmonton Dyspnea Inventory (EDI), in which dyspnea severity is rated across different settings including at rest, during activities of daily living, and self-reported exercise and crises.
