Importance: Fluoroquinolones are among the most commonly prescribed antibiotics. Recent clinical studies indicated an association between fluoroquinolone use and increased risk of aortic aneurysm and dissection (AAD). This alarming association has raised concern, especially in patients with AAD with risk of rupture and in individuals at risk for developing AAD.

Context: Little is known about renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS) activation in relationship to visceral adipose tissue (VAT) accumulation in HIV-infected patients, a population at significant risk for insulin resistance and other metabolic disease.
Design: Twenty HIV and 10 non-HIV-infected subjects consumed a standardized low sodium or liberal sodium diet to stimulate or suppress the RAAS, respectively. RAAS parameters were evaluated in response to each diet and a graded angiotensin II infusion.

Objective: In physiological conditions, renin-angiotensin-aldosterone (RAA) axis is under continuous tonic inhibition by dopamine. The aim of this study was to evaluate the relationship of nontumoural hyperprolactinemia with the activity of adrenocortical and RAA axis, before and after administration of bromocriptine.
Design: Twenty women with nontumoural hyperprolactinemia and 20 healthy women matched for body mass index and age were recruited in this study.

Objective: The purpose of our study was to test the applicability of calculating the difference between left ventricular (LV) and right ventricular (RV) stroke volume (SV) for assessing the severity of aortic (Ao) regurgitation (AR) using a real-time 3-dimensional (3D) echocardiographic (RT3DE) imaging system.
Methods: The Ao valve was incised in 5 juvenile sheep, 6 to 10 weeks before the study, to produce AR (mean regurgitant fraction = 0.50).

Recent studies have suggested that angiotensin II may inhibit fibrinolysis. In order to further test this hypothesis, we investigated the acute effects of angiotensin II (intravenous infusion of 10 ng/kg per min over 15-20 min) on fibrinolytic function in 18 healthy men. Time-controls (n=11) and control experiments with a placebo infusion (n = 13) were also performed.
