Human glucokinase (GCK) functions as a glucose sensor in the pancreas and liver, where GCK activity regulates insulin secretion and glycogen synthesis, respectively. GCK's low affinity for glucose and the sigmoidal substrate dependency of enzymatic turnover enables it to act as a sensor that makes cells responsive to changes in circulating glucose levels. Its unusual kinetic properties are intrinsically linked to the enzyme's conformational dynamics.

Background: Sika deer (, 1838) antler is a highly esteemed tonic renowned for its abundant assortment of polypeptides, polysaccharides, amino acids, and minerals, and is recognized for its multifarious pharmacological properties. However, limited research has been conducted regarding the variation in composition of deer antlers between the upper and basal sections, as well as their pharmacological effects on immunological activity and anti-fatigue in mice. The objective of this study was to conduct a comprehensive analysis on the appearance, chemical composition, and pharmacological effects of different components within sika deer antlers.

Background And Objectives: Epididymal transit renders key competence to mammalian spermatozoa for fertilizing eggs. Generally, the two paralogs of glycogen synthase kinase 3, GSK3α and GSK3β, functionally overlap except in testis and sperm. We showed that GSK3α is essential for epididymal sperm maturation and fertilization.

Rice-fish farming is an ancient and enduring aquaculture model in China. This study aimed to assess the variations in digestive enzymes, antioxidant properties, glucose metabolism, and nutritional content between reared in paddy fields and ponds. Notably, the levels of amylase and trypsin in from rice paddies were considerably higher compared to those from ponds.

Background: Astragaloside II (AST II) is one of the principal bioactive components of Astragalus mongholicus Bunge, exhibiting multiple pharmacological properties. However, the therapeutic efficacy of AST II in Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) remains to be fully elucidated. The study explored the effects and mechanisms of AST II in a COPD model induced by exposure to cigarette smoke (CS) and lipopolysaccharide (LPS) in mice.
