Epiphora associated with anomalies of the distal end of the nasolacrimal duct in children over 12 months: endoscopic findings and treatment.

Arq Bras Oftalmol

January 2025

Department of Ophthalmology, Faculdade de Medicina de Ribeirão Preto, Universidade de São Paulo, Ribeirão Preto, SP, Brazil.

Purpose: Congenital epiphora can be related to anomalies of the nasolacrimal duct. This study aimed to assess the distal end of the nasolacrimal duct and the outcomes of endoscopic treatment in children older than 12 months with congenital epiphora.

Methods: This retrospective analysis describes the clinical characteristics, management, and outcomes of symptomatic congenital lacrimal obstruction in 32 lacrimal systems of 23 children.

Many machine learning techniques have been used to construct gene regulatory networks (GRNs) through precision matrix that considers conditional independence among genes, and finally produces sparse version of GRNs. This construction can be improved using the auxiliary information like gene expression profile of the related species or gene markers. To reach out this goal, we apply a generalized linear model (GLM) in first step and later a penalized maximum likelihood to construct the gene regulatory network using Glasso technique for the residuals of a multi-level multivariate GLM among the gene expressions of one species as a multi-levels response variable and the gene expression of related species as a multivariate covariates.

Detection and characterization of pathogenic Bacillus haynesii from Tribulus terrestris extract: ways to reduce its levels.

Braz J Microbiol

January 2025

Innovation and Drug Discovery, Sava Healthcare Limited, Research Center, MIDC, Block D1, Plot No. 17/6, Chinchwad, Pune, 411019, India.

Plant parts such as roots, bark, leaves, flowers, and fruits that hold ethnopharmacological significance are naturally prone to microbial contamination, influenced by environmental factors like moisture and humidity. This study focuses on assessing the microbial load in the raw material of Tribulus terrestris (TT). The primary bacterium isolated from the pulverized raw material was identified as Bacillus haynesii through 16S rRNA sequencing.

Causal associations between immune cells and psychiatric disorders: a bidirectional mendelian randomization analysis.

Extensive researches illuminate a potential interplay between immune traits and psychiatric disorders. However, whether there is the causal relationship between the two remains an unresolved question. We conducted a two-sample bidirectional mendelian randomization by utilizing summary data of 731 immune cell traits from genome-wide association studies (GCST90001391-GCST90002121)) and 11 psychiatric disorders including attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), anxiety disorder, autism spectrum disorder (ASD), bipolar disorder (BIP), anorexia nervosa (AN), major depressive disorder (MDD), obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), Tourette syndrome (TS), post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), schizophrenia (SCZ), and substance use disorders (cannabis) (SUD) from the Psychiatric Genomics Consortium (PGC).
