Objectives: To investigate the epidemiological characteristics and changing trends of communicable diseases among children and adolescents in China from 1990 to 2021.

Methods: Based on the Global Burden of Disease Database, epidemiological indicators for communicable diseases among the population aged under 20 years in China from 1990 to 2021 were selected to analyze the burden of communicable diseases in this population, and a comparative analysis was performed with global data as well as data from Western Europe and North America.

Results: In 1990-2021, the overall burden of communicable diseases tended to decrease among children and adolescents in China.

Endoscopy is vital for detecting and diagnosing gastrointestinal diseases. Systematic examination protocols are key to enhancing detection, particularly for the early identification of premalignant conditions. Publicly available endoscopy image databases are crucial for machine learning research, yet challenges persist, particularly in identifying upper gastrointestinal anatomical landmarks to ensure effective and precise endoscopic procedures.

Retinal image registration is vital for diagnostic therapeutic applications within the field of ophthalmology. Existing public datasets, focusing on adult retinal pathologies with high-quality images, have limited number of image pairs and neglect clinical challenges. To address this gap, we introduce COph100, a novel and challenging dataset known as the Comprehensive Ophthalmology Retinal Image Registration dataset for infants with a wide range of image quality issues constituting the public "RIDIRP" database.

SAMHD1 shapes deoxynucleotide triphosphate homeostasis by interconnecting the depletion and biosynthesis of different dNTPs.

Department of Biochemistry and Structural Biology, UT Health San Antonio, San Antonio, TX, USA.

SAMHD1 is a dNTPase that impedes replication of HIV-1 in myeloid cells and resting T lymphocytes. Here we elucidate the substrate activation mechanism of SAMHD1, which involves dNTP binding at allosteric sites and transient tetramerization. Our findings reveal that tetramerization alone is insufficient to promote dNTP hydrolysis; instead, the activation mechanism requires an inactive tetrameric intermediate with partially occupied allosteric sites.

Background: Antiretroviral therapy (ART) has significantly improved outcomes for people living with HIV (PLWH), but poor CD4 T-cell recovery remains a challenge. This study aimed to evaluate the relationship between poor CD4 T-cell recovery and the morbidity of clinical events (CEs) in PLWH after ART initiation.

Methods: We conducted a comprehensive search of the EMBASE, PubMed, Web of Science, and Cochrane Library databases up to February 19, 2024, and included studies that reported the number of CEs along with the CD4 count at the time of the CEs or the most recent CD4 count prior to the CEs.
