The metabolic activities of microorganisms to modify the chemical structures of organic compounds are an effective tool for the production of high-value steroidal drugs or active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs). The integration of biotransformation into the synthesis of APIs can greatly reduce the number of reaction steps and achieve higher process efficiency, thus enabling their greener production. The current research efforts are focused on either the optimization of existing processes or identification of new potentially useful bioconversions.

Androgen dependence is a key feature of prostate cancer, and androgen deprivation is effective in treating prostate cancer. However, the disease often worsens and develops into castration-resistant prostate cancer after short-term control. The current study aimed to explore the mechanism of the synergistic action of 18β-glycyrrhetinic acid (18β-GA) and enzalutamide (ENZ) against prostate cancer.

Background: Urolithiasis is a highly prevalent global disease closely associated with metabolic factors; however, the causal relationship between blood metabolites and urolithiasis remains poorly understood.
Method: In our study, we employed a bi-directional two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis to investigate the causal associations between urolithiasis and metabolites. The random-effects inverse-variance weighted (IVW) estimation method was utilized as the primary approach, complemented by several other estimators including MR-Egger, weighted median, colocalization and MR-PRESSO.

Since steroids are crucial for diagnosing endocrine disorders, the lack of research on factors that affect hormone levels makes interpreting the results difficult. Our study aims to assess the stability of the pre-analytical procedure and the impact of hormonal physiological fluctuations using real-world data. The datasets were created using 12,418 records from individuals whose steroid hormone measurements were taken in our laboratory between September 2019 and March 2024.
