Studies on lepromin reactivity in indeterminate (I) leprosy have usually been carried out among patients in whom the disease appeared 1 or more years before testing. This may result in misleading findings because a high proportion of patients, probably those showing moderate or strong lepromin reactions, seem to progress to the tuberculoid pole of leprosy in a relatively short time (<1 year), and in many the lesions heal spontaneously. The object of the present study was to determine the frequency and intensity of late lepromin reactions (macroscopic readings) in untreated I patients aged under 21 years who had had the disease for less than 1 year. Of 209 patients tested with lepromin containing 160 x 10(6) bacilli/ml only a small proportion ( not equal 7%) showed a negative or doubtful lepromin reaction, while 61.5% were 2+ and 3+ reactors. These findings indicate that a favourable outcome may be expected in most I cases in the trial area.

Objectives: In the Philippines, there has been a lack of information on the concordance between classifications of Hansen's disease or leprosy clinically, histopathologically, and with AFS results. The study ultimately aimed to determine the concordance between the clinical diagnosis, histopathological results, and AFS results of patients with leprosy seen at the Dr. Jose N.

Childhood leprosy, which affects children up to 14 years old, is characterized by a delay in diagnosis since it is usually confused with other dermatoses. Its presence in a child is a relevant epidemiological indicator since it signals active disease transmission. We present 4 patients between 5 and 14 years old who attended a public hospital in Buenos Aires -two patients with borderline tuberculoid leprosy, one with lepromatous leprosy, and one with indeterminate leprosy.

Background: The World Health Organization endorsed Truenat MTB rapid molecular assay in 2020 and recommended additional in-country evaluation studies before uptake. We evaluated the accuracy and operational feasibility of Truenat MTB assay (Truenat) in comparison with GeneXpert Ultra and culture.

Methods: In a cross-sectional study of 250 presumptive TB patients, participants were requested to provide a sputum sample on the day of their visit to the clinic.

Background: Drug-Resistant Tuberculosis (DR-TB) is one of the major challenges to TB control.

Design And Methods: This was a blinded, laboratory-based cross-sectional study using sputum samples or culture isolates. Samples were from patients with rifampicin-resistant-TB and/or with high risk for isoniazid (INH) resistance and/or 2nd line fluoroquinolones (FQ) and injectable agents (IAs).
