Dual-functional metal-organic framework for chemisorption and colorimetric monitoring of cyanogen chloride.

Chemosphere

August 2024

Department of Physics and Chemistry, Daegu Gyeongbuk Institute of Science and Technology (DGIST), 333 Techno Jungang-daero, Dalseong-gun, Daegu 42988, Republic of Korea. Electronic address:

Given the growing concern over the deployment of toxic chemicals in warfare, the rapid and accurate removal and detection of cyanogen chloride (CK) as a blood agent has become increasingly critical. However, conventional physisorbents and chemisorbents used in military respirators are insufficient for the effective removal of CK. In this study, we demonstrate the chemisorption and sensing abilities of Co(m-DOBDC) (m-DOBDC = 4,6-dioxo-1,3-benzenedicarboxylate) for CK via electrophilic aromatic substitution (EAS) in humid environments.

Effective nitrogen doping of TiO polymorphs at mild temperatures for visible-light-responsive hydrogen evolution.

J Colloid Interface Sci

June 2024

School of Materials Science and Engineering, University of Science and Technology of China, Shenyang 110016, China; Shenyang National Laboratory for Materials Science, Institute of Metal Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Shenyang 110016, China. Electronic address:

Herein, a mild-temperature nitrogen doping route with the urea-derived gaseous species as the active doping agent is proposed to realize visible-light-responsive photocatalytic hydrogen evolution both for the anatase and rutile TiO. DFT simulations reveal that the cyanic acid (HOCN), derived from the decomposition of urea, plays a curial role in the effective doping of nitrogen in TiO at mild temperatures. Photocatalytic performance demonstrates that both the anatase and rutile TiO doped at mild temperatures exhibit the highest hydrogen evolution rates, although the ones prepared at high temperatures possess higher absorbance in the visible range.

Indoor crop cultivation systems such as vertical farms or plant factories necessitate artificial lighting. Light spectral quality can affect plant growth and metabolism and, consequently, the amount of biomass produced and the value of the produce. Conflicting results on the effects of the light spectrum in different plant species and cultivars make it critical to implement a singular lighting solution.

Microwave Pretreatment for the Extraction of Anthocyanins from Saffron Flowers: Assessment of Product Quality.

Antioxidants (Basel)

June 2021

BioEcoUva, Research Institute on Bioeconomy, High Pressure Processes Group, Department of Chemical Engineering and Environmental Technology, University of Valladolid, 47011 Valladolid, Spain.

The potential of saffron flowers as a source of polyphenols, and in particular anthocyanins, for the extraction of bioactive compounds and the production of a cyanic colorant was analyzed. A microwave pretreatment, prior to the conventional solid-liquid extraction process, was proposed as a feasible intensification step. The effectiveness of microwave pretreatment was assessed in terms of increased yield and improved quality of the final product.
