A deep neural network-based artificial intelligence (AI) model was assessed for its utility in predicting vital signs of hemorrhage patients and optimizing the management of fluid resuscitation in mass casualties. With the use of a cardio-respiratory computational model to generate synthetic data of hemorrhage casualties, an application was created where a limited data stream (the initial 10 min of vital-sign monitoring) could be used to predict the outcomes of different fluid resuscitation allocations 60 min into the future. The predicted outcomes were then used to select the optimal resuscitation allocation for various simulated mass-casualty scenarios.

Background: During prolonged physical exercise, the skin plays an important role in thermoregulation by dissipating heat to maintain core temperature. Moreover, thermal variation may be influenced by the physical fitness level of an individual. The aim of the present study was to determine the relationship between aerobic fitness and lower limb skin temperature during graded cycling exercise testing in well-trained athletes and nonathletes.

Severe human parechovirus sepsis beyond the neonatal period.

Here we describe a case of viral sepsis beyond the neonatal period caused by human parechovirus subtype 3 (HPeV-3), which manifested as cardio-respiratory failure, hepatitis, and necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC). HPeV-1 and 2 were originally classified as enteroviruses but the advent of sequence analysis led to them being recognized as a new genus in the picornavirus family. Subsequently, nine additional HPeV strains have been reported including HPeV-3 in 1999.

Several artemisinin (qinghaosu) derivatives have been developed and are in use as antimalarial drugs but scant animal or human toxicity data are available. We noted a progressive syndrome of clinical neurological defects with cardio-respiratory collapse and death in 5/6 dogs dosed daily for 8 d with intramuscular arteether (AE) at 20 mg/kg/d in a pharmacokinetic study. Neurological findings included gait disturbances, loss of spinal reflexes, pain response reflexes and prominent loss of brain-stem and eye reflexes.
