We developed a reversed-phased high-performance liquid chromatographic method combining ultraviolet detection and integrated pulsed amperometric detection for the simultaneous quantification of dopamine, 5-hydroxyindolacetic acid, homovanillic acid, serotonin, 3,4-dihydroxyphenylacetic acid, norepinephrine and epinephrine. All target components were completely separated in a C18 column with isocratic elution of 5% acetonitrile solution containing 8 mM HClO4 and 0.20 mM 1-octanesulfonic acid as an ion pairing reagent.

Synthesis of Sulfonated Peptides Using a Trifluoromethyltoluene-Protected Amino Acid.

J Org Chem

January 2025

Department of Surgery, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Harvard Medical School, Boston, Massachusetts 02215, United States.

A scalable, seven step synthesis is reported for a trifluoromethyl toluene protected sulfonated phenylalanine building block whose utility was demonstrated in the synthesis of four CXCR4-derived sulfonopeptides. When compared to a conventional trichloroethyl protected building block, overall yield was improved by up to 4-fold. We believe this building block will prove to be of significant value for the synthesis of a variety of peptide targets containing phenylalanine sulfonate, a bioisostere of tyrosine sulfate, enabling orthogonal protection strategies and improving synthetic efficiency and yield.

Purpose: Perfusion modeling presents significant opportunities for imaging biomarker development in breast cancer but has historically been held back by the need for data beyond the clinical standard of care (SoC) and uncertainty in the interpretability of results. We aimed to design a perfusion model applicable to breast cancer SoC dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (DCE-MRI) series with results stable to low temporal resolution imaging, comparable with published results using full-resolution DCE-MRI, and correlative with orthogonal imaging modalities indicative of biophysical markers.

Methods: Subsampled high-temporal-resolution DCE-MRI series were run through our perfusion model and resulting fits were compared for consistency.

In recent years, alternative enzymes with varied specificities have gained importance in MS-based bottom-up proteomics, offering orthogonal information about biological samples and advantages in certain applications. However, most mass spectrometric workflows are optimized for tryptic digests. This raises the questions of whether enzyme specificity impacts mass spectrometry and if current methods for nontryptic digests are suboptimal.

Utilization of wall-breaking sludge for improving soil structure in abandoned mine land.

Environ Res

January 2025

College of Forestry & Landscape Architecture, South China Agricultural University, Guangzhou, 510642, China. Electronic address:

Promoting soil structure is considered an essential prerequisite for abandoned mine land restoration. Sewage sludge (SS) has the potential to improve soil structure. However, traditional SS application to improve soil structure requires a lot of SS, potentially exacerbating heavy metal (HM) contamination.
