Aquaporin-3 (AQP3) mediates basolateral water transport in the kidney principal cells contributing to urine concentration. We previously identified the acetylation of lysine 282 (K282) in the C-terminus of AQP3, which we hypothesized as a positive regulator of AQP3 water permeability. AQP3 acetylation (K282Q or Q), or deacetylation (K282R or R) mimetic mutant mice models were created using CRISPR/Cas9.

Obesity is increasingly prevalent worldwide, and climate change is exacerbating water shortages, leading to dehydration. Both obesity and dehydration cause increased arterial pressure (AP), fluid electrolytic imbalance, and neuroinflammation. Thus, the present study aimed to verify the changes in the cardiovascular system, hydroelectrolytic balance and microglia and neuronal activation in rats fed with a high-fat diet (HFD) in response to 24 h of water deprivation (WD) and the possible mechanisms involved.

Background: This in-vitro and in-vivo study investigates the Gibbs-Donnan effect across the filter during continuous veno-venous hemofiltration (CVVH). In particular, we assessed its acid-base implications, applying the physical-chemical approach.
Methods: A prospective, single-center study was conducted using the PrismaMax machine (Baxter).

Urine electrolytes and indices assessment as a tool for acute kidney injury (AKI) pathophysiological understanding and management is, until these days, a matter of debate. The classic division of AKI in "pre-renal" (functional/transient) and "renal" (structural/persistent) based on the urinary concentration of sodium and the fractional excretions of sodium and urea has gained popularity for decades and is still present in medical textbooks. Nevertheless, the conclusions of the studies that have used these parameters are very heterogenous and controversial.

Gitelman syndrome (GS) is the most common hereditary renal tubular disorder, with a higher carrier frequency among Asians often overlooked in older adults. Electrolyte imbalances, such as those seen in GS, are crucial considerations for older adults experiencing recurrent falls. We described an 83-year-old diabetic female on metformin, who was admitted due to recurrent falls with the preceding dizziness and palpitations when standing.
