CPSF4-mediated regulation of alternative splicing of HMG20B facilitates the progression of triple-negative breast cancer.

J Transl Med

December 2024

Department of Breast Surgery, College of Medicine, The First Affiliated Hospital, Zhejiang University, Hangzhou, 310000, Zhejiang, China.

Background: Aberrant alternative splicing (AS) contributes to tumor progression. A crucial component of AS is cleavage and polyadenylation specificity factor 4 (CPSF4). It remains unclear whether CPSF4 plays a role in triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) progression through AS regulation.

Association between sensitivity to thyroid hormone indices and type 2 diabetic microvascular complications in euthyroid patients.

Sci Rep

December 2024

Department of Endocrine and Metabolism, The First Affiliated Hospital, Jiangxi Medical College, Nanchang University, Nanchang, China.

The correlation between thyroid hormone (TH) sensitivity and microvascular complications of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) remains uncertain. This study aimed to explore the association between TH sensitivity and the risk of diabetic kidney disease (DKD), diabetic retinopathy (DR), and diabetic neuropathy (DNP) in euthyroid T2DM patients. This study included a total of 946 hospitalized T2DM patients and calculated their sensitivity to the TH index, and each patient completed screenings for DKD, DR, and DNP.

Up to 80% of children/adolescents with Graves' disease (GD) may require second-line treatment with either surgery or radioactive iodine (RAI) therapy after treatment with antithyroid drugs. These interventions aim to induce permanent hypothyroidism, but are not always successful. We aimed to evaluate the initial success rate (within the first year) of RAI treatment and its determining factors as second-line treatment in teenagers with GD.

Wogonin suppresses proliferation, invasion and migration in gastric cancer cells via targeting the JAK-STAT3 pathway.

Sci Rep

December 2024

Department of Dermatology, Affiliated Hospital of Shandong University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Shandong Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, The First Clinical Medical College of Shandong University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Jinan, 250011, China.

Wogonin is a compound extracted from the medicinal plant Scutellaria baicalensis Geogi and has been found to exert antitumor activities in a variety of malignancies. However, the molecular mechanisms involved in the anti-gastric cancer (GC) effects of wogonin remain poorly understood. In the present study, we found that wogonin treatment inhibited the proliferation of GC cells, induced apoptosis and G0/G1 cell arrest, and suppressed the migration and invasion of SGC-7901 and BGC-823 cells in vitro.

Objective: Thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) is related to increased atrial fibrillation (AF) inducibility and plays an important role in a variety of cardiovascular diseases. However, the association of baseline TSH with in-hospital outcomes in patients with AF and coronary artery disease (CAD) is unknown. This study aimed to investigate the distribution of baseline TSH and its association with in-hospital outcomes (major adverse cardiovascular events [MACE], all-cause death, or heart failure [HF]) in AF patients combined with CAD.
