This study reports the preparation of cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) from commercial bleached eucalyptus Kraft pulp (BEKP) using a hydrothermal treatment in the presence of maleic acid (MA), followed by high-pressure homogenization. Compared with conventional hydrolysis methods, this approach offers significant advantages, including lower acid concentration, higher yield, and milder processing conditions. CNCs were produced with a high yield (70-85 wt %) by high-pressure homogenization of hydrothermally treated BEKP fibers with 10-20 wt % maleic acid at 150 °C, giving rise to a stable translucent gel of CNCs with a rod-like morphology (200-400 nm length and 10-40 nm width).

The increasing demand for sustainable and eco-friendly pest control methods has led to a growing interest in the development of novel, plant-based pesticides. In this study, we investigated the potential of nano-emulsions containing plant oils (Portulaca oleracea, Raphanus sativus, and Rosmarinus officinalis) as a new approach for controlling three major pests: Aphis gossypii, Spodoptera littoralis, and Tetranychus urticae. Using ultrasonication, we prepared stable and uniform nano-emulsions characterized by thermodynamic properties, dynamic light scattering (DLS), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM).

Magneto-ionics, which refers to the modification of the magnetic properties of materials through electric-field-induced ion migration, is emerging as one of the most promising methods to develop nonvolatile energy-efficient memory and spintronic and magnetoelectric devices. Herein, the controlled generation of ferromagnetism from paramagnetic Co-Ni oxide patterned microdisks (prepared upon thermal oxidation of metallic microdisks with dissimilar Co-Ni ratios, i.e.

In order to improve the preservation of red grape fruits, 'Chuju' polysaccharides (CCP) were cross-linked with chitosan (CS) to create CCP/CS composites with varying ratios. These composites were comprehensively characterized using FT-IR, C NMR, and SEM, which confirmed a smooth film surface and a uniform distribution of CCP. The composite films demonstrated efficacy in maintaining the quality of red grapes by mitigating shriveling and significantly reducing firmness loss by 22.

The application of hydrogels to drug delivery limited by the difficulty of encapsulating hydrophobic drugs; therefore, the development of novel composite hydrogels for the delivery of hydrophobic drugs is urgently needed. In this study, terbinafine hydrochloride/hydroxypropyl-β-cyclodextrin inclusion complexes (TFH/HP-β-CD ICs) were added to a Schiff base hydrogel matrix containing octenyl succinic anhydride-modified chitosan (OSA-CS) and sodium alginate (OIA) to prepare a TFH composite hydrogel (TFH GEL). The results revealed that the solubility of TFH in water within TFH/HP-β-CD IC reached 32.
