Universal representations in cardiovascular ECG assessment: A self-supervised learning approach.

Int J Med Inform

December 2024

Center for Artificial Intelligence in Medicine, Chang Gung Memorial Hospital, Taoyuan, Taiwan; School of Medicine, Chang Gung University, Taoyuan, Taiwan; Division of Rheumatology, Allergy and Immunology, Chang Gung Memorial Hospital, Taoyuan, Taiwan. Electronic address:

Background: The 12-lead electrocardiogram (ECG) is an established modality for cardiovascular assessment. While deep learning algorithms have shown promising results for analyzing ECG data, the limited availability of labeled datasets hinders broader applications. Self-supervised learning can learn meaningful representations from the unlabeled data and transfer the knowledge to downstream tasks.

Background: Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is associated with decreased heart rate variability (HRV) with an unclear intermediate mechanism. This study aimed to conduct mediation analysis to explore the impact of various adipose tissues on the relationship between T2DM and HRV.

Methods: A total of 380 participants were enrolled for analysis, including 249 patients with T2DM and 131 non-diabetic controls.

Andexanet alfa is a recombinant, modified factor Xa (FXa) molecule that is used for the reversal of the anticoagulant effect of oral anti-FXa anticoagulants in patients with major haemorrhage. Here, we present a case of an 85-year-old man taking rivaroxaban for atrial fibrillation, who presented with an acute, upper gastrointestinal bleed. He was stabilised with red cell transfusion and then received a 400 mg bolus of andexanet alfa.

Risk Factors and Clinical Features of Peripartum Cardiomyopathy in a Chinese Population.

J Multidiscip Healthc

August 2024

Department of Cardiology, Union Hospital, Tongji Medical College, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Wuhan, People's Republic of China.

Purpose: We investigated the risk factors and characteristic clinical features of peripartum cardiomyopathy (PPCM) to lay the groundwork for early identification, screening, diagnosis, and intervention in high-risk pregnant women.

Patients And Methods: A retrospective case-control study was conducted to analyze data from 44 patients with PPCM and 226 normal pregnant women from a Chinese population.

Results: Significant differences were found between the groups in terms of various factors such as age, body mass index (BMI), heart rate, and medical history.
