Rationale: Different populations have their own unique physiological and pathological characteristics. However, in specialized maternal and child hospitals, there is currently a lack of standardized methods for assessing coagulation dysfunction, both domestically and internationally.
Patient Concerns: A 19-day-old neonate was transferred to neonatal intensive care unit with cyanosis, nasal bleeding for 6 hours, and a consciousness disorder for 5 hours.

Introduction: Emicizumab is used as hemostatic prophylaxis for patients with hemophilia A (PwHA), irrespective of the presence of inhibitors. Although bacterial infection can lead to a procoagulant state, there is limited information on coagulation and fibrinolysis potentials in emicizumab-treated PwHA and on the use of anticoagulants in such cases.
Aim: We examined whether anticoagulants affect the coagulation and fibrinolysis potentials in plasma from PwHA spiked with emicizumab.

Background Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) is the primary cause of pulmonary embolism and the third most life-threatening cardiovascular disease in North America. Post-DVT anticoagulants, such as warfarin, heparin, and direct oral anticoagulants, reduce the incidence of subsequent venous thrombi. However, all currently used anticoagulants affect bleeding time at various degrees, and there is therefore a need for improved therapeutic regimens in DVT.

An 8-year-old Japanese boy with no underlying disease presented with severe intramuscular hematoma of the hip, and was admitted for a disseminated intravascular coagulation-like state with fibrinolytic dominance. Laboratory examinations revealed severe hyper-fibrinolysis with elevated markers, markedly shortened euglobulin clot lysis time, mildly decreased prothrombin, and severely decreased fibrinogen and factor XIII. Natural fibrin precipitates rapidly appeared in citrate-treated, ethylene-diamine-tetra-acetic-treated, and heparin-treated samples, but not in argatroban-treated samples, indicating that the mechanism of thrombin and fibrin formation was Ca-independent.

Aortic aneurysms are sometimes associated with enhanced-fibrinolytic-type disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC). In enhanced-fibrinolytic-type DIC, both coagulation and fibrinolysis are markedly activated. Typical cases show decreased platelet counts and fibrinogen levels, increased concentrations of fibrin/fibrinogen degradation products (FDP) and D-dimer, and increased FDP/D-dimer ratios.
