Translocation across barriers and through constrictions is a mechanism that is often used in vivo for transporting material between compartments. A specific example is apicomplexan parasites invading host cells through the tight junction that acts as a pore, and a similar barrier crossing is involved in drug delivery using lipid vesicles penetrating intact skin. Here, we use triangulated membranes and energy minimization to study the translocation of vesicles through pores with fixed radii.

Background: Point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) can be used in a variety of clinical settings and is a safe and powerful tool for ultrasound-trained healthcare providers, such as physicians and nurses; however, the effectiveness of ultrasound education for nursing students remains unclear. This prospective cohort study aimed to examine the sustained educational impact of bladder ultrasound simulation among nursing students.
Methods: To determine whether bladder POCUS simulation exercises sustainably improve the clinical proficiency regarding ultrasound examinations among nursing students, evaluations were conducted before and after the exercise and were compared with those after the 1-month follow-up exercise.

This study describes procedures for embedding digital information into additively manufactured components as well as procedures for readout and tensile testing. Embedded digital codes were printed inside ASTM E8/E8M dumbbells using Direct Metal Laser Melting (DMLS) with an EOS M290 printer. The codes were configured as either ellipsoids or prolate spheroids in patterns given by the Cantor dust fractal.

Finger amputations following complex hand injuries (CHI) pose a significant challenge in hand surgery due to severe tissue trauma and neurovascular damage, necessitating precise arterial repair. While restoring arterial perfusion is critical, it remains unclear whether reconstructing both proper palmar digital arteries is required for optimal outcomes. This study evaluates whether restoring one or both arteries in finger replantation after complex injuries impacts perfusion and overall outcomes.

The aim of this study was to clarify the relationship between the severity of condylar osteoarthritis (OA) and skeletal mandibular retrusion. Three-dimensional cephalometric characteristics of skeletal mandibular retrusion were analysed using computed tomography scans from 15 patients with OA and 15 without OA. Mandibular, dental, and condylar-related factors were evaluated.
