Background And Objectives: A typical workflow for deep brain stimulation (DBS) surgery consists of head frame placement, followed by stereotactic computed tomography (CT) or MRI before surgical implantation of the hardware. At some institutions, this workflow is prolonged when the imaging scanner is located far away from the operating room, thereby increasing workflow times by the addition of transport times. Recently, the intraoperative O-arm has been shown to provide accurate image fusion with preoperative CT or MR imaging, suggesting the possibility of obtaining an intraoperative localization scan and postoperative confirmation.

As knowledge accumulates in science and society in a distributed fashion, erroneous derivations can be introduced into the corpus of knowledge. Such derivations can compromise the validity of any units of knowledge that rely on them in the future. Can societal knowledge maintain some level of integrity given simple distributed error-checking mechanisms? In this paper, we investigate the following formulation of the question: assuming that a constant fraction of the new derivations is wrong, is it possible for simple error-checking mechanisms that apply when a new unit of knowledge is derived to maintain the integrity of the corpus of knowledge? This question was introduced by Ben-Eliezer et al.

Mitochondrial genomes are a rich source of data for various downstream analyses such as population genetics, phylogeny, and systematics. Today it is possible to assemble rapidly large numbers of mitogenomes, mainly employing next-generation sequencing and third-generation sequencing. However, verification of the correctness of the generated sequences is often lacking, especially for noncoding, length-variable parts.

In spectral analysis, selecting the right spectral variables is crucial for effective modeling. It reduces data dimensionality, removes irrelevant wavelength points, and improves both the generalization ability and computational efficiency of the model. However, the number of available samples often falls short of the total possible combinations of wavelengths, making variable selection a non-deterministic polynomial-time (NP) hard optimization problem.

In the food industry, time-to-result is crucial for faster release of products, minimising recalls, mitigation of microbial contamination problems and, ultimately, food safety. Carrageenan is isolated from red seaweed (Rhodophyta) and applied in various foods and beverages as a gelling, thickening, texturing, or stabilizing agent due to its hygroscopic properties. Currently, the standard industry plate count method entails a one-hundred-fold dilution of the sample before mixing with molten agar for assessment of the level of microbial contamination in carrageenan samples prior to business-to-business shipment.
