Chitinase 3-like protein 1 (CHI3L1) is emerging as a promising biomarker for assessing intracranial lesion burden and predicting prognosis in traumatic brain injury (TBI) patients. Following experimental TBI, Chi3l1 transcripts were detected in reactive astrocytes located within the pericontusional cortex. However, the cellular sources of CHI3L1 in response to hemorrhagic contusions in human brain remain unidentified.

Certain proteins and synthetic covalent polymers experience aqueous phase transitions, driving functional self-assembly. Herein, we unveil the ability of supramolecular polymers (SPs) formed by G4.Cu+ to undergo heating-induced unexpected aqueous phase transitions.

Perioperative neurocognitive disorders (PND) is a common complication affecting the central nervous system, commonly induced by anesthesia and surgical procedures. PND has garnered considerable attention in recent years, not only due to its high morbidity but also its negative impact on patient prognosis, such as increased rates of dementia and mortality. Sevoflurane, a common volatile anesthetic in clinical practice, is increasingly linked to being a potential risk factor for PND with prolonged inhalation, yet effective prevention and treatment methods remain elusive.

In this study, we analyzed the spatio-temporal pattern of expression of specific transcription factors (PITX2, FOXA1, BARHL1, FOXP1, FOXP2) in the human fetal subthalamic nucleus and its neighboring structures from 11 postconceptional weeks (PCW) to 3 postnatal months. We found that all analyzed transcription factors are expressed already during the early fetal period (at 11 PCW). Both FOXP1- and FOXP2-immunoreactive cells were found in the subthalamic nucleus as well as in the striatum, thalamus, reticular nucleus, but not in the zona incerta.
