The influence of long-term climatic changes such as glacial cycles on the history of living organisms has been a subject of research for decades, but the detailed population dynamics during the environmental fluctuations and their effects on genetic diversity and genetic load are not well understood on a genome-wide scale. The Japanese macaque (Macaca fuscata) is a unique primate adapted to the cold environments of the Japanese archipelago. Despite of the past intensive research for the Japanese macaque population genetics, the genetic background of Japanese macaques at the whole-genome level has been limited to a few individuals, and the comprehensive demographic history and genetic differentiation of Japanese macaques have been underexplored.

In a quest to innovate biologically active molecules, the benzoylation of 4,6-dimethylpyrimidine-2-thiol hydrochloride (1) with benzoyl chloride derivatives was employed to produce a series of pyrimidine benzothioate derivatives (2-5). Subsequent sulfoxidation of these derivatives (2-5) using hydrogen peroxide and glacial acetic acid yielded a diverse array of pyrimidine sulfonyl methanone derivatives (6-9). In parallel, the sulfoxidation of pyrimidine sulfonothioates (10-12) yielded sulfonyl sulfonyl pyrimidines (13-15), originating from the condensation of compound 1 with sulfonyl chloride derivatives.

The West Antarctic Peninsula (WAP) is a hotspot of climate warming, evidencing glacier retreat and a decrease in the fast-ice duration. This study provides a > 30-y time-series (1987-2022) on annual and seasonal air temperatures in Potter Cove (Isla 25 de Mayo/King George Island). It investigates the interaction between warming, glacial melt, fast-ice and the underwater conditions (light, salinity, temperature, turbidity) over a period of 10 years along the fjord axis (2010-2019), and for the first time provides a unique continuous underwater irradiance time series over 5 years (2014-2018).

The synthesis and characterization of benzo[d]thiazol-2-amine derivatives, which were prepared by reacting benzothiazole with para-aminobenzophenone in ethanol, supplemented with glacial acetic acid. Subsequently, compound (2) was synthesized from compound (1) using NaNO, HPO, and HNO in a water-based solvent, resulting in 2-hydroxy-1-naphthaldehyde. Another derivative, compound (3), was synthesized by reacting compound (1) with vanillin under similar conditions.

The 'Third Pole', home to numerous glaciers, serves as vital water reserves for a significant portion of the Asian population and has garnered global attention within the context of climate change due to their highly vulnerable nature. While a general decline in global glacial extent has been observed in recent decades, the pronounced regional imbalances across the Third Pole present a perplexing anomaly. To assess the impact of glacier mass changes in the Gangotri basin, we conducted a comprehensive analysis using remote sensing data to estimate spatially resolved mass changes from 2000 to 2023.
