A Perspective on Lung Cancer and Lung Microbiome: Insight on Immunity.

Immun Inflamm Dis

February 2025

Department of Medical Laboratory Sciences, Faculty of Medical Sciences, Islamic Azad University, Arak Branch, Arak, Iran.

Background: Although the carcinogenic potential of microbes has long been recognized, their significance may have been underestimated. Currently, the connection between microbiota and cancer is under extensive research. The lung microbiota may serve as a proxy for the state of lung health based on its crucial role in preserving lung hemostasis.

Background: During the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic, dominant viral variants were repeatedly replaced by new variants with altered properties, frequently changing the dynamics of the infection event, as well as the effectiveness of vaccines and therapeutics. SARS-CoV-2 variant monitoring by whole genome sequencing was established at the University Medical Center Mainz, Germany to support patient management during the pandemic.

Methods: SARS-CoV-2 RNA samples from the University Medical Center were analysed weekly with whole genome sequencing.

January 2025

Department of Biomedical and Clinical Sciences, Division of Molecular Medicine and Virology, Linköping University, Linköping 58183, Sweden.

The monkeypox (Mpox) virus has emerged as a global public health emergency of international concern recently. The virus that was endemic in West and Central Africa has now been reported with chains of global transmission to several countries. A scoping review was carried out from the relevant literature available from PubMed, Scopus and Web of Science.

Transmission of Zika virus (ZIKV) has been reported in 92 countries and the geographical spread of invasive virus-borne vectors has increased in recent years. Arboviruses naturally survive between vertebrate hosts and arthropod vectors. Transmission success requires the mosquito to feed on viraemic hosts.

The recurrent global exposure to highly challenging viral epidemics, and the still limited spectrum of effective pharmacological options step on the accelerator towards the development of new antiviral medicines. In this work we explored the anti-SARS-CoV-2 potential of a recently launched chiral ring system based on the uracil scaffold fused to carbocycle rings. The asymmetric synthesis of two generations of chiral uracil-based compounds (overall 31 different products), and their in vitro cytotoxicity and antiviral screening against wild-type SARS-CoV-2 in U87.
