Article Synopsis
  • This study investigates the biological changes in rabbit corneas caused by two light-activated corneal stiffening methods: riboflavin with UVA and WST11 with NIR.
  • Differentially expressed proteins were identified following treatments, showing RF-D/UVA affected cell metabolism and keratocyte differentiation, while WST-D/NIR influenced extracellular matrix regulation.
  • The findings reveal a metabolic shift towards glycolysis in RF-D/UVA treated corneas compared to normal respiration in WST-D/NIR treated corneas, highlighting the distinct biological effects of each treatment.

Prevalence of dry eye in Brazil: Home survey reveals differences in urban and rural regions.

Clinics (Sao Paulo)

January 2025

Department of Ophthalmology, Otorhinolaryngology, and Head & Neck Surgery, Faculdade de Medicina de Ribeirão Preto, Universidade de São Paulo, Ribeirão Preto, SP, Brazil. Electronic address:

Purpose: A random home visit search investigated the prevalence and predictors of Dry Eye (DE) symptoms in Brazil.

Methods: Through home visits to 420 urban and 180 rural residences in the countryside of Southeast Brazil, the Dry Eye Disease Short Questionnaire (DEDSQ) was applied to volunteers 40 years and older. The predictive value of the DEDSQ and the risk factors were investigated.

In this paper, we demonstrate a high-contrast front-end laser system based on Yb: YAG solid-state laser for Ti: sapphire terminal amplification. An ultrafast Yb: YAG solid-state laser is used to generate a broad-spectrum seed through white light generation (WLG), and then the signal light near 1600 nm is amplified by three-level colinear optical parametric chirped pulse amplification (OPCPA). Finally, a fs second harmonic generation (SHG) is used to obtain a laser output with a central wavelength of 795 nm, a pulse width of 40.

For the application scenario of multi-user, high-bandwidth laser communication in satellite internet, this paper proposes a spatiotemporal vector optimization algorithm to achieve high energy utilization in arbitrary multi-beam generation using a liquid crystal optical phased array antenna. The core components of this method involve optimizing phase offsets and power coefficients through iterative processes to achieve precise beam shaping and efficient energy distribution among multiple beams. This approach overcomes the single-link limitation of traditional laser terminals and resolves challenges such as low radiation efficiency and substantial power loss in multi-beam generation systems utilizing passive phased array antennas.

This paper introduces an interferometer for single-shot areal quantitative phase imaging at two wavelengths simultaneously, suitable for use with low coherence sources. It operates in reflection geometry with on-axis illumination, so that it can be conveniently applied to surface texture measurements. The system consists of two identical 4f systems forming the reference and sample arm.
