Dynamic-budget superpixel active learning for semantic segmentation.

Front Artif Intell

January 2025

Department of Computer Science, University of Saskatchewan, Saskatoon, SK, Canada.

Introduction: Active learning can significantly decrease the labeling cost of deep learning workflows by prioritizing the limited labeling budget to high-impact data points that have the highest positive impact on model accuracy. Active learning is especially useful for semantic segmentation tasks where we can selectively label only a few high-impact regions within these high-impact images. Most established regional active learning algorithms deploy a static-budget querying strategy where a fixed percentage of regions are queried in each image.

Background: Trichoscopy is a simple, noninvasive tool to help in the diagnosis of various hair and scalp disorders. There is paucity of data on the normal trichoscopic parameters of hair density and diameter in the Indian population.

Aim: The aim of this study was to establish the trichoscopic patterns of hair and scalp in healthy Indian males and to provide a framework for future reference.

Supracricoid partial laryngectomy is a surgical treatment for advanced laryngeal cancer which is implemented to preserve organ function, but it may cause obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) due to anatomical changes after surgery that may be neglected by clinicians. Although the gold standard for the diagnosis of OSAS is polysomnography, respiratory polygraphy is an alternative valid method with a high level of diagnostic sensitivity and specificity; since the equipment is portable, it can be used at home, with no need for hospitalization.  To describe the polygraphy result of patients submitted to supracricoid partial laryngectomy.

Introdution: Although oral and dental diseases may occur in unexpected or even emergency conditions, but some of the diagnosis and treatments can be algorithmically done following some guidelines. The development and implementation of a system that provides users with a record of history and a proposal of required actions can be not only efficiently practical, but also virtually simple.

Materials And Method: A system made up of web and mobile apps is proposed and evaluated for screening and self-care of oral and dental problems and for providing advice on dental emergencies and therapeutic measures.

A simple, economical, and high-yield method for polyethylene glycol-based extraction of follicular and serum-derived extracellular vesicles.

Tzu Chi Med J

October 2024

Center for Prevention and Therapy of Gynecological Cancers, Department of Research, Hualien Tzu Chi Hospital, Buddhist Tzu Chi Medical Foundation, Hualien, Taiwan.

Objectives: The optimization of polyethylene glycol (PEG)-based extracellular vesicles (EVs) extraction from human follicular fluid (FF) and serum was investigated, and their functional analysis was confirmed. The PEG-based EV results were compared to the ExoQuick (ExoQ)-based EV.

Materials And Methods: FF-EVs and serum-EVs were extracted by using different concentrations of PEG (8000).
